Have prices risen on the 50mm f1.8 EF lens?

Good lord...even on EBAY of all places, I can only find them for $119CDN...from an American dealer. Canadacamera wants $129.99CDN.

Isn't this thing $70US ($92CDN)?

Well I bought it for 74 dollars a couple weeks ago, And I just checked adorama and it's the same price. As for ebay, except for the occasional small car part or a used record player, I havn't seen many deals at all. Most things I can buy cheaper from the usualy online retailers.

I was just at London Drugs yesterday talking to my friendly neighborhood camera man and out of conversation got talking about my flea-market steal-of-a-deal on my MkI. He then proceeded to look up the MkII in the books and came up with $129.00 their cost. He told me that their mark-up is so small, they're lucky to make $20.00 on it.

Bought mine a couple of days ago from B&H for the USA lens $74. Import goes for $69, out of stock.

I bought mine for R$ 360 (Brazilian reals). R$ 3 = U$ 1 (approx.) so I paid 120 USD for mine. It's sad but I found only one copy of this lens available at this price range here in Sao Paulo. I think I found the last one indeed... More than 20 stores in downtown and NONE had more these fifties!!
Looks like cheap Canon lenses (and bodies!) is an Anerican-only reality, so don't look surprised if I talk about budget choices here :wink:
Just to give another example: here the 70-200 4L costs about US$ 1200... Well, I'm sooo happy with my EOS 30 & cheap lenses that I can wait until I can fly to Miami and buy some pounds of glass and chips :twisted:

Funny you should mention that...because I work at a London Drugs. Heh...I'm well aware of the cost of a MkII at our store but...remember, that's cost...so retail should be something like $169.99 and even with my employee discount...that still sucks.

BTW: The catalogs we have are 3 years old! Someone tell Canon Canada to send us some new frickin' catalogs!

Oh...I'm in the computer department...although working cameras wouldn't be terrible...but they have to write their invoices by hand.

Apparently, people don't mind overpaying on eBay. I bid $65US for a NIB one and someone outbid me. That's crazy! I'd rather drive down to Seattle and do some shopping instead!

Seller was in Canada.
