Challenge #87 - Pointy Stabby Things

Your Mission, should you choose to accept it, is to take a dynamic shot of anything that has a pointed end or blade-edge, or combination, which has a purpose. (other than to look pretty, so things like Blackpool Tower are out, ie: they just point to the sky and little else).

Any scale, manmade or naturally occurring...... This message will self destruct in one week :)

"Your Mission, should you choose to accept it, is to take a dynamic shot of anything that has a pointed end or blade-edge, or combination, which has a purpose."

Although this really doesn't qualify as a "dynamic" shot, it has pointed ends with a purpose of protection.

This is stretching it but these points are dropping pollen all over my counter. These were grown by my kids in my backyard.

Canon S2IS, ISO 100, 1/10 s, f/3.5, EC -2/3 using super macro mode.

It's just after 9pm here and the challenge shuts at 10pm. All week I had no ideas (apart from cactus, which had been taken and I have no cacti anyway). Tonight as I'm brushing my teeth I look at my toothbrush and realise it's pointy for a good reason. So here is my very quick effort.

1st Place : gewb - Stay In or Keep Out?

>> Love the dynamic aspect of this shot, purposely using the flash to underexpose the land and create a threatening atmosphere. Exactly what I was looking for.

2nd Place : dexdex - Not My Cup Of Coffee

>> Visually striking, fantasic shot, like the randomness and pointiness.

3rd Place : Micky Daeus - Stuck for Inspiration

>> Colours just bounce out at you, excellent shot.

Over to you gewb - Well done :)

Wow, thanks BBoi! Yours was a thought provoking topic and I really liked all of the entries. Your "well done" goes out to all submitters.

New topic coming soon.

Gary

Thanks BBoi, I was rushing in PP. I realised later that I could have also turned on my colour (vibrant) on camera - duh- . I wasn't really happy with the white balance in any mode even custom but them's the breaks.
Congrats to everyone else there are some nice pics again this week.

Oho ! Thanks Bboi for chosing my picture. Specially knowing that you are a macro + other gimmicks expert on compact camera. My "not the newest" IXUS is looking a bit limited against that, but still an amazing piece of hardware.
It turned out that the actual size of the cup is difficult to guess, and I was asked what kind of pencils I used. We are known for having a "big mouth" ("grande gueule") here in Geneva, but the "pencils" are just ordinary toothpicks in a very narrow coffee cup.
And by the way, I'm "on your territory" this week, enrolling my daughter to an Intensive English school at Bath. What a smashing city ! We even had some sun ! ;-)
Anyway, thanks again.

Macro Expert - LOL - hardly, my lenses SUCK compared to the proper £300 ones, but I'd like to think I get presentable shots out of them. I appreciate the comment thanks :)

Yeah I figured toothpics, but what an awesome shot !! and good DOF to really make them stand up at you. Bath huh, well, thats about 8 hours drive from me, but at least you're on the island :) enjoy this little scrap of hot weather while it lasts my friend. Have a great time here and safe journey back. By the way, you're near a small place called FROME in the south just a few miles, worth checking out, some great scenery.

All the best,
Bboi.
