OK, I have to admit up front that I'm a sucker for Volkswagens. I walked by this one on a rainy morning.

Would appreciate comments on the conversion to B&W, the decision to leave the rust coloured, the cropping & framing... whatever you may see that works well, or needs improving!

hey there, I think this is a really good photo. I love the way you left the rest in colour (or was it just too rusty to get it out ;) ) and i think the B&W conversion is spot on. Also the composition is great and I love the grass poking up.

The only thing i dislike is that it seems the grass is more in focus than the front of the VW.

To me, the rust is a little bit distracting.
I would prefer the photograph without the rust in colour.

the rust points out the timeless beauty of this VW.. I like it alot....

I find B&W with selective colour rarely works, but in this shot I think it works brilliantly. The first time i looked at teh photo i didn't even realize it was B&W, i thought it was just a rusty black and white van. I find The effect is subtle but really works well with this subject.

did i mention that i think the effect works well on this shot? :D

Seems like the rust colour is a some like it, some don't situation. Good to know I wasn't just being indecisive when I wondered about it. :)

I saw another post (http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=34385) on this forum that I thought was a wonderful use of selective colour -- better than my rust!

Anyway, thanks for the critique, I appreciate it!

Hi, ndh. You definately are not the only one who had a hard time deciding about this photo. I didn't like it at first, but witheld comment. I have looked at it a couple of times since then and have decided that I do like it after all. It's interesting to me that the colored rust almost makes the VW look like a creature rather than a machine.
