As a proud 5D owner, I need to ask the question......Why Did Canon feel the need to Make the 5D MK II when the original was almost perfect ( dust problem) why the new one?

Why not? Not too many pieces of technology out there that doesnt have a sequel or v.2. Cameras are no different.:D

I dont see the mkII to be an upgrade to the 5D as an improvement

Did I miss a Canon 5D MK II being announced?

Phew....still a rumour then, I am not gonna like this 5D mkII

If the 5d was a person, it I'll be Angelina Jolie covered in finest Belgian chocolate, Im happy with my 5d.

The 5d mkII will be Angelina Jolie covered in finest Belgian chocolate, which is being licked off by the pussycat dolls.........in a hot tub.

Sorry in advance for this very sexist post, lady photographers feel free to come up with your own fantasies..er I mean comparisons
Sorry to all our PC friends in America also, the english sense of humour can be quite dry and strange

When released the 5D Mk.II will have image quality surpassing the 1Ds Mk.III according to some people's logic. This is flawed.

Newer cameras are not always better or significantly better. The 300d ame out AFTER teh 1Ds MkI. What camera is better? The 5D is a great camera no doubt, but the Mk.II (if released) will not lessen the 5D.

Go shoot some pictures. :)

I always find interesting when people that like (I should say love) a specific camera model or brand, get worried because there could be a better or newer model coming soon.

Hmmm, a camera that doesn't exist is better than one that does.... ? http://www.dgrin.com/images/smilies/headscratch.gif

i love how u add this comment often to many posts. fact is, you absolutely correct about it! being a "tech" forum, we get bogged down with specs and such and we end up sittin on our pc's/macs all day instead of doing what we all love... shooting! at the end of the day just "go shoot some pictures" dammit! hahah

I am very guilty of it myself. I sit here typing out my photo clubs agenda and soem tech tips for tonight, wishing that my photo club was about everyone bringing their cameras and talking about photography.

Alas, it's about competitions, outings etc. and can get dry. We all need to add to the shutter count as much as possible!

Which brings me to... "If a camera is released, in the middle of the woods, where no one is there to buy it. Did it really exist ?"...

Think about that one !

(PS: No doubt the MkII will have improvements, but I am imagining along the margins of 30D vs 40D. Digic III, better processing speed, higher fps??... Maybe a 3" LCD, and improved focusing... Just speculating, but not expecting something ultra new there).

Technology advancing!?! Oh noes.

Be glad the 5D is as great as it is and enjoy it for what it is. If Canon can go ahead and make another leap like they did with the 5D I'm all for it. I for one don't mind improvement.

To make more $$$$. That is what its always about. To sell you a new camera. Is it going to be better? Maybe but for me to change it will have to be a whole lot better.

Meh....as a 5D owner, I'm not worried about a 5D mkII coming out. My camera does exactly what I wanted it for. But what if Canon made a fail switch on the old 5Ds as soon as the mkII gets released:eek::eek:;)

Well one reason of late, the 40D is some eyes as good as a 5D, Ok not lets argue that point on here, but even so if the 40D is clipping the heels of a 5D, seems a pretty good reason to upgrade the 5D, considering it is not far short of £1k more for a 5D

Oh maybe that new niky FF thing might just be another little reason???

Don't worry. There's nothing to argue about the 40D being as GOOD as a 5D. Those two cameras are like night and day. The 40D of course has newer features, but that's about it.

If and when the 5D MK II comes out, I'll bet it will have a have a bigger LCD, and live preview. Things I can live without on my 5D. I do like the fact that you can turn a grid screen on and off on the 40D, but that's about it.

what are you talking about? canon's not even announced anything about the replacement for the 5d?! for all you know, they might not even replace it! (doubtful)
this should be in the rumors section!

Hmm.

I'm more thinking along the lines of the 20D-30D upgrade.
The 5D is already a hell of a camera, and - as many here mentioned - Canon still wants to sell the odd 1DsIII.

Of course, the new D3 adds a bit of movement to that equation...

Best regards,

I'm worried because I've nearly saved enough for a 5D, which has been gradually dropping in price.
I need a full-frame camera and the 5D is the cheapest I can get. If they bring out the 5D Mk2 soon they might recall the 5D - when I got my 350D it was just out, I would have been as happy with a 300D for a bit less, but couldn't find one anywhere, I was told they couldn't sell them anymore since the 350D came out.
Strangely this didn't seem to happen with the 400D, my brother bought a 350D after the 400D came out.

Obviously I would prefer any improved 5D Mk2 over a 5D, but I can get a 5D for £1450, if the 5D Mk2 comes out its going to be about £1700+, I'd have thought. Thats a lot of clams.

Can we start to make up statistics for the non-existant 5D MkII

I'm going with improved sealing similar to the 40D, 4.5fps and around 18MP's, larger LCD and built in iPod...

edit: Dang, it got moved to rumours, now i look stooopid for posting in another 5D thread..

I saved for ages for my 5d. It is the dogs boll**ks. It is still going to be just that if a 5d2,3 or 4 arrive. Why worry. You're camera and most importantly your photography will not become crap just because a newer model is on the market.

I want a second 5D body so I'm hoping that they will bring out a new version next year because when they do (or just before) the price will drop to clear stock to make way for the new model and I will pick up a 5D cheaper. The 5d is a class act, secondhand values are rock solid so whats the rush for Canon? Look at Nikon, just brought out a FF sensor years after Canon. If the reviews on the new Nikon D3 are very good then Canon may feel the need to trump Nikon and raise the stakes. Trouble is loads of photographers who were once loyal to Nikon have jumped ship and have lost out financially in the process (myself included) and it would be very hard for Nikon to get them back again. My 'in the know' friend who has been right so often about new developments in the industry - including the 21mp chip just launched - tells me that Canon are currently developing a 50Mp chip - thats just how ahead of the game they are.
