Hey,
Seen as though the Royal Mail would rather just let me waste my credit and not answer the phone I was wondering if you guys could help. I was getting a lens delivered today and just missed it (bad timing for a shower!), on the back of my card it says that I can rearrange delivery for the next day after 12noon BUT when I go on the website to arrange it I can't get it delivered till friday- which is too late as i'll be on my way to London. Now the card says 48 hours until I should try collecting but i'm sure in past experience it has been there within 24 (to the local delivery office)?
Has anyone here had experience of this? I could keep trying to call and arrange delivery but theres nobody answering.. perhaps they're ALL on lunch!

Depends on your local office. In the past, I've been able to miss a delivery and go down to the parcel office to pick it up first thing the following morning. I've never had anything re-delivered though.

Yeah, well i've tried ringing and they won't answer. I know how much these 0845 numbers add up on my mobile bill too! I emailed them so will see what they say and just pop into the delivery office after 12 tomorrow and hope it's there, I think it probably will be- I guess they just say 48hours just in case to cover their back.

Don't bother with the 0845 number. Try and get the direct phone number for the office you want to talk to.

Managed to find the number :) Still no answer but at least it's free for me to keep trying now!

Is the address of the delivery office on the card? If so, the best thing to do is go down there late afternoon with ID, and collect the package in person?
We're very lucky here, in that our DO is on an industrial estate on the outskirts of town, and has its own small car park. Indeed, it's often the easiest way to send mail that needs no more than weighing - though they can't do any of the 'complex' stuff that Post Office Counters can.

My local office, if you cannot get it when the postman comes, you either follow his van and go and get it! Or wait till about lunchtime and drive into town and go in with the receipt and proof of ID and or address and they give it you :)

Yeah i can get the metro to the place its not far, BUT the card says leave 48 hours before collecting. However, i'm sure it's been there the next day in the past.

Usually, so long as the postie has returned from his or her route, the package is available for collection, but it's worth leaving it almost as late as you can in the afternoon before the office closes to maximise your chances of walking away with the package.
