View Full Version : What to look for when I pick up new D-60

I just got off the phone a minute ago and my local camera store expects to be able to fill my D-60 order in less than 2 weeks.

When I go to pick up the camera, what should I check before I walk out of the store? I want to make sure I am not getting a return or a unit that had been played with. Is the unit packaged in such a way that I can tell if it has been removed from the package?

When I get it home, the first thing I will do is a dark field test and look for hot pixels. While I know they can develop with time, I am expecting none at the start. Is this realistic?

Any suggestions are welcome.

The camera shop said next week should be when the camera is available.

Any pointers greatly appreciated....

Just go out there and take lot's of pictures. Problems will show up within the first few hundred shots. Though I doubt you'll have any. Hot pixels are only an issue if you plan to take a lot of long exposure night shots or scenes with lots of shadow.

If it's new, your store should have a solid return policy. But the box I got my D60 in was not sealed. Examine the LCD screen for scratches. Look through the viewfinder to see if there is dust on the mirror or focus screen.
