FYI: Canon USA just started offering an upgrade option if you have an out of warranty PowerShot (not EOS) digital camera in need of repair (or if you have a repair that is not covered by the warranty, like dropping it). If you decide that you would rather upgrade to a refurbished camera in the same product line (ie. S100 to S400), you could choose to upgrade and send your older camera back when you receive the new one. The upgrade price seems to be about half the cost of purchasing the newer model. Canon does NOT send you additional cables, etc. unless necessary for operation. You do not get to choose which model (and in the case where you have a newer model, an upgrade may not be an option - even though the option is there for a replacement of the same model). In other words, if you have an S110, you couldn't upgrade to a G5 or an S50. In many cases, the newest model in a product line (S500 and S60, for example) are not the upgrade model available.

Where might we find details from Canon on this?

I haven't seen it posted on Canon's site yet - but it's a lot like their Canon Loyalty program for out of warranty printers. I found out from Canon tech support.

Thanks for the info!
I called Canon about my s100, and wanted to know about upgrading to an s70. I was told that the "upgrade path" for my s100 ONLY includes the S-410, which they would deliver to my door for $185.00. Essentially, that would give me the same camera with a little faster shutter speed, and twice the resolution. That would be OK if I wanted the S-410, but I don't! :( Anyway, I just thought I'd let you all know about the "upgrade path" thing.

I have an S70 with a dented and scratched case. Wonder if I could get another S70 or a S80 as a replacement?

Good luck getting either an S70 or S80. My S80 couldn't be repaired and I settled for an SD700IS through Best Buy.
