I am in Florida and had a few questions. I am working on building my portfolio and may have the opportunity to take some pics of a friend who is 17 years old. I dont plan on selling the images but just want to put them in my portfolio.
Do I need to get a release?
thanks

Always a good idea. You do not know what the future needs may be.

My main concern is the age, and whether or not I need a gaurdian permission.

As a minor, the model cannot enter into a legally binding contract by themselves. Get a parent or guardian to co-sign.

I totally would get both a parent/guardian signature plus the signature of the 17yr old model .....

That is why it is known as a MINOR model release form.
Less than 18 years of age, you are considered a minor in the U.S. and not responsible as an adult.
ALSO as part of the release you must give compensation of some value, in order to make it a legal contract/agreement. I usually give them a 4x6 print or a $1.00 coin.
