View Full Version : G7 mod to add RAW?

i thought i read a link a while back that allowed users to mod certain cameras like the G-series and S-series in order to add RAW support.
i know the G9 offers RAW support, but 12mp is an overkill for a P&S in my opinion, and the slightly larger screen doesn't add anything for me either. i'd prefer to pick up a G7 to carry around at times when my DSLR is too much. i'd just prefer to have a RAW option when editing pictures.
does anyone remember the mod i'm talking about? has anyone done it and been pleased with the results?

thanks!

No firmware hack (yet!) for the G7.

You're probably thinking of THIS (http://digg.com/mods/Awesome_Canon_Camera_Firmware_Hack_Shoot_RAW_on_yo ur_DIGIC_II_A_series).

I think it's call a G9.

I can imagine that one day when a G9 firmware is avaliable that someone will figure a way to hack it for use on a G7 if Canon doesnt do it first. Of course that is provided they have the same sized avaliable firmware memory. Otherwise it will have to be used onboard a separate memory chip like the above posted hack.

The RAW hacks that are around are for DIGIC II based cameras. The G7 is DIGIC III based - the processor is, apparently, quite different.

I can't see anyone bothering, to be honest. Many of those that want RAW will upgrade to a G9.
