Just a curious.. question for you Portrait Photographers,
do you offer Portrait Packages only .. or do you offer custom orders.. or some kind of mix or what?

Right now I mostly have Portrait Packages, with the option of adding custom prints to a package. But I've had some clients ask to just custom order the whole deal, where they choose their own print sizes and quantities.

Is it profitable to have a build your own package type setup available.. in addition to packages. And if you do have that.. do they EVER use your packages instead of custom ordering?

Just trying to figure out how best to meet my clients/customers needs..
thanks for any thoughts,
~Rae~

I'm do a very small business, but I have some packages made up and then individual prints also. Basically, if someone wants to buy something from me, I'll sell it however they want it.

The kids seem to like down-sized images for their myspace pages, I do that for them too, but I make sure they can't afford a CD until they buy a print package along with it.

I have packages that are cost efficient for the customer to buy over individual prints but I make sure that the packages do have multiple prints in them so that I am making a decent return.

I never turn business away. There are those that want to get just one enlargement and in most cases they will tell you going in. I will sell them an individual enlargement. In alot of cases this is an add-on to a package that they have already purchased.

We have both packages and ala carte. In our ala carte options, you can't purchase small prints unless you have purchased a package. This cuts down on the "I'll just take one 6x4 thanks" time wasters.

However - we also have a make your own package, where they can choose exactly what they are after, and if they are spending over x amount (prints only) they get a 10% discount, and over y amount a 20% discount.

I think the secret to this method is making sure your individual prices are high enough that your packages look really appealing.

Cheers,
Naomi

I've got an off topic question...I need some carbon copy print order forms. What's the best online document printing service ya'll have found?
