would be nice to have a section to showcase the work of young photographers, call it POTNtial :)
only hard part would be to confirm age/etc.

Maybe we could have age displayed in the side area? Old forum used to have that. Also had flags representing country. Those were cool...

i feel old because all these youngins (not really) keep calling songs int he 90's old. but i act 10...hm?

I think that better idea would be a section on the forum, in which more advanced potn users would post lessons, some kind of photography academy. They could share their lighting tips, studio setups etc...

I don't think that would help that much. POTN has always been an open forum, open to everyone of every standard. We all have things to learn, we all have things we can pass on to those less experienced than themselves.
Splitting things out into areas of age and ability is discriminating and would dilute the essense of "community" here.

Maybe an optional gender thing though? I know there are often people who are thought of as the wrong gender.

Many forums have an area for younger photographers to display their work. Their communities are pretty strong. I think that calling it "discriminating" might be a bit sensational.

If there should be any differentiation, it would seem to me that experience should be more of a consideration than anything else, and I don't think there's a way to honestly or accurately assess that. A 12-year old girl who has been taking photos for 5 years is likely going to be a better photographer than a 42-year old man who just bought his first camera. It's neither a gender or age issue. Then, you factor natural ability into the equation, and it really gets murky.
I'm opposed to dividing into groups. It's divisive, and could create the impression that not all members are created equal.

I didn't say it was a good idea - I just don't think that anyone would or should classify it as "discrimination".
I think that the section would be intended to highlight young photographers work rather than segmenting it or segregating it from the "pack".

I believe as quite a young person, that it doesnt matter the age of the photographer, its just the photos they produce.
I have seen some wonderful photographs from 15-16 year olds equalling a 50-60year old.
I vote to keep it the same.
However i do put my age in my signature just so people know that i havent been on this world that long. :)

While there is not a specific section of the forum for this these tutorials, lessons, and tips all exist on POTN. Check out the stickies of every section for relevant information. There is more than you think.
