Being a 10D owner with a 70-200 2.8, I still must admit how cool that camera can look with the right accesories on it. Silver is not so bad with the white lens on it. Totally cool.

Tim, have you tried to mount it on a tripod? On my manfrotto tripod, it's a very tight fit (the battery grip rubs against the tripod head :? )

It is comparable to...."So Lone Star, I see your Schwartz is a BIG as mine!"

Yay, a Rebel with a lense that is more expensive than the camera! Seriously, I don't think anything is wrong with showing off your warez. It just means someone is willing to spend more cash than others. If I have expensive top of the line lenses, I'd show it off too. Actually, I wouldn't show off the lenses, I'd probably show off the awesome photography that I was able to do utilizing those lenses.

Maybe, but for those who are regulars here, there is a lot of friendly banter that goes on including the occasional 'Look what I got!'. For most of us, the additional of a new lens or camera body is much akin to a blessed event in the family.

I agree that too much of it can be a little 'off-putting', but we're all friends here, so the occasional case of 'gear ego' (as you put it) can certainly be forgiven.

BTW, did I tell you about my new 70-300DO lens?

As the saying goes, "If you've got it, flaunt it."

Curos: Yeah, I used a Doggy Bone to level it. Seemed appropriate.

Funny thing, I got to thinking about that, "Go black, never go back," quote
and the accompanying picture. The quote, of course, is a male boast, but
the image connotation is of a black camera (female) on the receiving end
of a (most definitely male) white lens. If I were a black guy, would I,
should I, delete that post, or just smile at the irony of my faus pas?

Whats wrong with the Rebel?

I can assure you like most 1st time SLR owners.. when the Rebel is purchased the furthest thing from anyone's mind is buying a $1,000.00 lens.

I mean c'mon... you only need to read this forum once to see that everyone starts out looking at Sigma 75-300mm f/5.6 zooms and or Tamron 28-300mm etc....

We even had a Vivitar-ectomy last week

No Timmy was just another innocent victim of this forums incessant lens abuse!

"C'mon Timmy... don't listen to what your parents say.. L lenses are fun and safe"

"you won't get hooked.. just try it... "

I mean look at his spiral downward.. he allready wrecked his truck under the influence of "L"... and in the end all he was concerend about was that he was able to save his lens!

...He's hocking I-pods to maintain his new addicition... selling all his worldly goods.. deosn't even go to school anymore,.. won't return phone cals and I'm sure he's living on Mac & Cheese!

A fair question and a perfect answer. I strongly suspect that when TQ reaches the point where he feels limited by his camera, he'll deal with it appropriately.

I started with the 300D and then purchased a 10D a few months later. I still have and use my dRebel. It is an excellent camera. As much as I would love to own the MarkII, its more than I NEED at the moment and I would rather spend that money on glass.

Does anyone remember when the Dreb first came out, people here were constantly handing out the advice to Buy the silver one and save money for a nicer lense if money was an issue or if you didn't need the extra features? I seem to remember reading that about 50 times.

Maybe it was the same person saying that every time. Regardless, it sounded like good advice then and still does. I Dreb with a 70-200 looks a lot better than a 10D with a (insert lens here so that I don't offend).

I think about this all the time as we talk about white being better than black and painting things black. I check my posts all the time to make sure that I am not saying anything that can be seen a blatant racial reference. Too many backs and whites in here. We could easily go on for days making white and black jokes but we don't.

I would delete that post as it is not a faux pas at all but a direct reference to race. If it were a faux pas maybe you should still delete it.

I am not offended however it is worth deleting it if these types of comments could make the participants in this forum uncomfortable.
