Hi All

Been messing round with new camera, and was out taking some test shots yesterday.

I stood on an old pier and took some of the main town, question is, does this foreground interest work?

Cheers for any comments

Just my opinion, but I think yes, it does work. I think you pulled it off as the water is so calm, the colours so varied and the entire scene so peaceful. Nice one.

i love the stillness of the water!

i think the gradient in colour on the water allows it to work... i.e. the foreground maintains enough interest

Thanks for your comments, I was wondering if the foreground was enough, there was a bit more that I cropped off, otherwise the town would have been far too small.

I think I'll visit again for a re-shoot

Cheers

I think it would be a nice shot if there were clouds in the background.

I think its a great shot. the stillness is very peaceful. the detail in the foreground is just enough to keep the eyes interested. very nice

Cheers all

I'll re visit and see if I can get a cloudy shot. Would work with a stitched pan too I recon.

Yes, I think the "danger" in a shot like this is having a lot of featureless foreground but here the colors/shadows add some foreground interest. then the smooth water to the land and a very subtly different colored sky.

I'm going to be different here, I don't think it works. I can't decide if I want to look at the foreground or the land in the distance, my eyes keep going back and forth. So I would opt for this:

I definitely like that.

Eagle,

That was my thoughts exactly. I was going to post until I got down to yours. I thint the rock formation makes a natural anchor point for the foreground.
