First attempts at flower photography, tell me what you think, I am not sure if the background is too dark.

Excelent picture, I'm not shore about the background. Maybe you could try a warm color for background.

i think it looks great. It maybe needs to be a little more sharper, but other than that you have captured a great pic.
brilliant. colors look good and the waters drops are a nice touch.

its a very good photo, but far from crisp...

the red bits of the flower look in focus while the white petals do not. Perhaps try it again with a looser DOF?

Thanks for the input guys. I am not sure why the petal in the foreground appears out of fucus, unfortunately the flower has twisted to reach the sun today and placed it in an awkward postion to attempt to reshoot without the rest of the plant in the background. Yesterday was this blooms first day to open, so the main petals have yet to develop their full color and I thought it looked interesting with the vivid colors of the "mouth" and the pale white and soft hazy pink striping of the petals. Maybee when the next pod unfolds I can get another shot at the image.
I may play with it to see if it can be sharpened in PS.
