I know its bad supposedly to blow out the highlights in the hair and dress etc... but these guys:
www.theimageisfound.com
seem to make a living blowing out dresses, hair, and sky.
What do you guys make of that?

They're some of my favourite wedding shooters in the world. :)

I absolutely love them!
I think it's the old case of knowing the rules, and then breaking them.
Cheers.

What Ruth said; those pictures are so full of emotion and style, which is a really difficult thing to pull off.
There's a certain amount of processing gone into the 'blowing out', it's high key rather than 'blown highlights'. A subtle but important difference.

I hope these are in the inspiration list. These guys are really good. They are not afraid of high ISO either. Many of these pics look like ISO 1600, 3200.
I believe that the moment & emotion should come before technical excellence. If these pictures didn't catch the moments, and they were posted on this forum, they would get C&C.

LMAO @ the first image in their engagement gallery - "HUMP"! :D (click here (http://www.theimageisfound.com/wedding/) then click engagement)
Also look at #19 in that gallery - really wide - creative and stunning.
Amazing photographers.

There is also a BIG difference between blowing hightlights because you buggered up the exposure, and adding artistic flair to the final product. All images that i saw on that site had impeccable exposure and lighting to begin with.

Probably a combination of a few great things!:
Great bodies, great lenses, great post processing techniques, probably color calibration for their bodies, etc. etc!
Very saturated and vibrant tones like that can be achieved in Lightroom if the exposure is done well!!

It really looks to me like they're selectively blowing out portions of the images in PP. I think they get a good exposure at the time of taking the picture, then use layers to blow out areas and blend.

Hmm that's an interesting thought

Blown highlights are a bigger deal on photo forums where everyone knows everything, than they are in real life, to real clients, with real photographers :)

Great stuff for sure.
And as far as those colors, don't under estimate the power of actions. A few come to mind...

Shouldn't this list have started, great skill and technique? Or do you really believe that the gear did this?

Just shows that the 'shoot right' histogram axiom is not much more than a truism that beginners blindly follow as a universal truth! The point is 'placing' your exposure precisely, where you the photographer envision your shot will end up

no......technique is everything. Yet, the poster asked about achieving similar color - which often comes from excellent glass and a great knowledge of post processing techniques. But these photog's vision and skill is astounding!!! Amazing Stuff
