I have a "dust" particle that I see in the view finder of my DRebel, but it does not show up on any of the pic's. Is this actually in the view finder or could it be any where between the mirror and up to the view finder? I tried to blow it out with a hand blower (without actually setting the sensor clean option) but I don't want to expose the censor if I don't have to. I have no issues with dust on it right now. Any easy way to get it out? Should I just leave it unless it starts to show up in pictures? It is annoying but I can live with it if needed. Also, it moves positions in the view finder every so often.

Second question. I noticed lately that the red eye reduction icon on the back LCD is always flashing. Regardless of the mode or settings. All features, including red eye reduction (which is usually off) still work fine, again it is just annoying. Any one else have this problem.

The dust you see when you look through the viewfinder is almost certainly on the focusing screen inside the camera. If you take the lens off, turn the camera upside down and look at the focusing screen (also called a groundglass) you should see that bit of dust. Blow it off very carefully with a blower brush. If it's stuck you could swab it gently with the brush itself.

Since the DRebel's groundlgass can't be changed it's unlikely that the dust is on the other side. If some dust has somehow managed to get in, then you are going to have to live with it or send it to Canon for servicing.

It will never affect your images since the groundglass is for focus only.

Sorry I have no clue as to your second problem's solution.

Are by chance running the hacked firmware :?:

There was an issue when it first came out, that when you changed any of the parameters the red-eye would flash. So if you installed the hack it's possible you may have installed the older version.

So I would suggest you go to the above link & download B7.1 which is the newest hack (located on another link).

Hope this helps :D

I loaded it just to see what it added, but decided to go back to the Canon Firware Ver 1.1.1, at least until AIServo is working in hack. It was Ver B7.1 when it was loaded.

Dust problem fixed, thanks Dave.
