I know I've touched on this subject before. Everyone who responded had nothing but praise for the New York Institute of Photography. So, I finally got my rebate in the mail this past week and so, the time is now. I am leary as you guys can well understand. It's a great deal of money that I am putting down, and since I'm in no way financially secure I want this to work for me, not come back and haunt me. I guess that my real question is this: Can I become a professional and be successful with this course? I have limited options where I live, and if I were to go to the local college (which sucks btw) then I would also have to take a bunch of generals that would never apply to my situation/goal. I want to make this my profession, so am I making the right move? All professionals, semi-professionals and anyone else who is on their to becoming a pro, please respond.

think that if you study real photography books (cheaper in the long run...buy on e-bay or barns and noble) one at a time and study composition, study stuff on Zuga.net, study magazines, you'll do just as well if not better than with NYIP. They are for people who have basically NEVER picked up a camera before. They will not make you a pro. It's your own drive that will. It's all about self improvement and self motivation.
