It seems like it should work but I haven't figured it out and don't want to do any damage but.....when DPP processes RAW files, can it be made to imbed a new thumbnail into the file that reflects any DPP edits? I'm just wondering that -- even if the edits are reversible in DPP, so the base RAW data is not affected -- if the changes can be reflected in the RAW's embedded jpeg. This is something that would be good to pick up in the cataloging software that reads the jpegs.

Does that make sense or would that be heading things down the wrong path?

Thanks,
Frank

p.s. on that note, anyone using DPP and iView with suggested workflow?

Not sure if I quite get your question (I'm dumb) but... after making adjustments in DPP, they're "saved" when you exit. Next time your in there, the thumbnail shows the modified view.

I guess I'm not any better at asking the question. ;7) Here's what I meant:

In the camera if you shoot raw, it'll save the RAW data and also embed a thumbnail into the file. Among other things, 3rd party image management (or browser) software can quickly read the embedded thumbnail without immediately interpretting the RAW file. I know that most programs can't write over the RAW data, only the camera can, but I was wondering if Canon's own DPP could actually embed a new thumbnail into the RAW file if you made and saved changes to it in DPP.

I guess this is sort of like what people do when they convert to DNG format and one of its apparent advantages--you still have the nondestructive editing of the RAW but also the ability to update the thumbnail that's embedded in it.

This way, I was thinking, I could do my conversions in DPP, update the thumbnails, and if I setup my iView to display the embedded thumbnail, iView would recognize and display the edits made to the recipe in DPP.
