Places to do indoor portraits/glamour when you don't have a home studio???

Just looking for some tips or suggestions on where to do family pics, portaits and some glamour stuff. I'm a student and live in an apartment so I don't have the space or money to buy a stand and backdrop.

Anybody have general suggestions about places inside that are friendly for photography where 1) lighting would be acceptable with just a 580 and 2) you're not likely to get bothered.

I guess I don't really know the setting I'm looking for, just looking for general advice, thanks!

I may be wrong, but I believe you can rent studio space and equipment at some camera shops. I know the one near where I live does this. Might be worth looking into?
