I have recently begun shooting my daughter's soccer and lacrosse games, and find that the EF 70-200L f/4 lens on occasion doesn't seem to have enough reach.

I have been considering the EF 300L f/4 IS prime. I am a little leery of going to the prime and obviously it ain't cheap.

Thoughts and personal accounts and advice from the forum would be appreciated!

Thanks,

Joe

Rent it first...

Try out the lens you are thinking about for a week, month whatever and see if it suits your needs. It's alot cheaper also and you will know for sure if you are making the right decision.

Another lens to consider which I have just discovered is the Sigma 120-300 f/2.8.

You can pick one up off of ebay for the non DG version for around $1600-1900. Yes it's alittle more expensive than the 300 f/4 IS lens you are interested in but it will give you a very wide variety of options. The other thing is resale value on lenses that are kept in decent conditon is very good.

The other consideration is getting the 300mm f/4 non IS version.

I am personally a firm believer you don't need IS in sports. And there will be 30million other people out there that are going to try and prove to you that you have to have it.

Like I say rent first and see what you want.
