I've felt that Canon has been the cream of the crop since digital has come around, however now I feel like they're not kicking butt like they were.
D3/D300 looks like they're going to be a nice cameras. And they have a lot of features that I would have expected Canon to have put into the 1Ds MKIII, 1D MKIII & 40D such as those sweet LCD's.
200mm f/2 VR, Canon please respond with a new 200mm f/1.8 IS!
200-400mm f/4 VR, replace the 100-400 with a 200-400mm f/4 IS with DO optics or 4 stop IS.
Zeiss makes Nikon F Mount lenses, hello Canon?
Fuji's S5 is a Nikon F Mount, couldn't Canon have given Sigma the rights to make the S14 in an EOS mount?
I just feel that Canon focused on making the king of Megapixels DSLR with the 1Ds MKIII and have not considered anything else.
I think MF should be considered.
I know that Canon's workers understand marketing much better then I do, but I feel that they should consider a SL (Super Luxury) moniker for MF lenses. Make primes that are in line with Leica or Zeiss.
A completely modular system that consists of 7 sensors, 3 bodies, 3 view finders and 3 grips.
Sensors could be:
48X36mm sensor around 40 Megapixels like the H3D
48X36mm HDR 16MP sensor, using the same idea of different photosite sizes like Fuji.
35mm sensor from the 1Ds MKIII, 21MP.
35mm with 8MP and super low noise/high ISO.
1.3 crop from 1D MKIII
1.6 crop from 40D
2.0 crop with 8MP.
Bodies:
MF body which would accept MF sensors and FF sensors with MF lenses. up-to 3 FPS depending on sensor. Space for 4 CF cards with different storage options like RAID.
Sports body which could take any crop sensor and all EF/EF-S lenses. up-to something crazy like 20 FPS with 2.0 crop.
Compact body that looked more like a 1-series camera, but smaller (Think of the fabled "3D") Accepted all FF and crop sensors and all EF/EF-S lenses. up-to 7 FPS depending on sensor.
View finders:
Standard viewfinder
Angle viewfinder
Hip height viewfinder
Grips:
Grip like Leaf's AFi where you adjust the angle. (I think it's Leaf's that is like that)
Grip like Mamiya's but with wireless transmitter.
Grip that makes it less like MF and more like a 1 series with the _| shape to it.
Grips/viewfinders could be used on the MF body and sports body.
I know that's all fantasy with a host of problems but what I am getting at is Canon should be doing something in order to remain king.
