There is a [url=http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller/home?O=productlist&A=details&Q=&sku=179368&is=REG]8mm[/url at B&H. But it is $589. I don't know if you are looking to spend that much.

I was hoping to maybe just find a fisheye adapter since I can't see myself using it but a handful of times. And for a lens that I use that seldom I don't want to spend a forune. At least not right now.

Now there is a guy on Ebay that has been selling some kind of adapter. And I want to say that they are like $60. I have been curious if that would do in a pinch. But I haven't really looked into and I am sure that it isn't FANTASTIC quality. But you may want to give that a peek too.

Sigma makes an 8mm fisheye.

Tap dancing christ on a cracker, that 8mm is a grand!

That is a like $125 a milimeter. But I guess if you plan to get some good use out of it then it would be worth the money. As for me I an just gonna rig something up. I just can not justify L type money on a lens I use once or twice a year. What can I say, I'm cheap. Actually I am broke, which makes being cheap easy.

But if you do get it, let us know how it works out.

------------------------- Edit ----------------------

My mistake. I was looking at an outdated price for the N***** mount. It is like $589. I retract my blasphemous excited utterance.

There are some nice Russian fisheyes available, Zenitar 16/2.8 and Peleng 8/3.5, in different mounts (or you get it in M42 screw mount and add M42->EOS adapter). I guess Zenitar is about $120 plus adapter is about $20. I have read they are of pretty fine quality. Available at ebay.

I had this lense for a while and used it less than I thought I would so I sold it. The image quality was fine but it is extremely wide. It looks like you are shooting through a paper towel roll.

Hmm. Russian lenses you say. Can you suggest a vendor that is trust worthy and deals in these lenses?

From what I have heard, RUGIFT might be the place to go to buy russian photo products in the US.

DUDE!

So if I buy this 20 buck piece, I'll be able to mount my zenit lenses?

(I only have the standard one, but still!)

This is really interesting. If the mount actually allows the infinity focus I'll probably spend a few fundred bucks there...

Of course I understand the multi coating layers are 30 years inferior to current L glass... but the PRICE is GOOD

And from what I've seen, zenit makes metal lenses... usually. At least USSR did. I don't know if Russia still does.

I hope they do, cause they won't wiggle, and cost cents compared to Canon stuff.

most zenitar 16mm fisheyes have a bad infinity focus problem, but they are easily fixed by loosening a few tiny (like miniscule...) screws, loosen some other screws, fold back a rubber ring, remove the metal lenshood, and adjusting the point at which infinity is in focus. after that it's awesome. this is documented on a few different sites. also, you can force the piston/pin, which is used for dof preview, to stick in its hole, and then you can easily adjust the aperture. a word of warning - this lens *overexposes* so you have to be a bit careful until u get used to it. also, at 2.8 the dof is much shallower than the 50 1.8 ?! i guess it's the curvature/distortion on actual distance??!?

af doesn't work, but you can stop it down enough and set it to infinity where it becomes a p&s lens and still have plenty of light in the day to shoot without focusing.

fwiw i also have the sigma fisheye 15mm ex and i love it. but you can definitely tell the difference between sigma ex glass, and russian 'дешевое стекло' - maybe i'll do a lens comparo when i get back to sydney :)

The Peleng 8mm is a good lens, and the Zenitar 16mm is even better. Both compare favorably with good third-party lenses and better than some. Mounts are metal. My Zenitar has an EOS mount and does not require the adaptor, though the screws on the mount were loose when I got it and I had to tighten them.

The best source for either in the U.S. is Kiev Camera in Atlanta. The proprietor is Mike Fourman. www.kievcamera.com

I prefer the Zeintar for my 10D because it's a full-frame fisheye. The Peleng is a circular fisheye, but the circle spills over the top and bottom of the smaller digital sensor and that doesn't look quite right. The Zenitar's fisheye distortion is actually a bit subtle, and for many organic subjects can be managed so as to fool the viewer into thinking the image is rectilinear. I bought it because the flare on my Sigma 14/3.5 was unacceptable, and I've used it quite a lot.

Sounds real easy :D

at 2.8 the dof is much shallower than the 50 1.8 ?!
UH? How can that be possible?

I know, I know... But there's no fn way I'm gonna be able to afford any of the canon primes other than f/1.8 Thus, russian manual primes may be the solution. It's better to have an ok wide angle prime than none at all...

Do you actually speak russian, or just copied and pasted the "cheap glass" in russian?

 hehhehe babelfish, mate...

it's actually easy to fix the focus problem. as for the 2.8 dof - i'm guessing it's just because of the inverse magnification effect - over the physical distance it's longer but the apparent distance is shorter due to the distortion.

as for the price of the sigma, it's probably only like US $400, but yes as you say at the price it's better than none at all.

??? will my 300D be able to use the AF on those russian lens or I can only use the focusing ring to focus?

These lenses are manual focus and mechanical with no electronic connection to the camera. Use Av mode, focus manually, and set the aperture. With the fisheye, you really don't need to focus. Using f/8 or so, the hyperfocal distance is only a couple of meters in any case. The focus indicator in the finder will work. The aperture will report 00 in the Exif file, but the camera will work fine setting shutter speed automatically in Av mode.

I'm off to a photostore to get my hands on some m42 glass. I'm getting shakes!

This sounds mean. Almost like german MG42 machine gun
