i would suggest using photoshop to convert colour to black & white afterwards, you'll have the option to tweak images to your satisfication.

Canon was smart and did not include the ability to turn your pictures into black and white on the camera, any camera is simply not powerful enough to do a high quality conversion to a B & W photo.

You can do a much better job converting the picture via Photoshop, or any of it's subsidiarys <sp?>. They also allow you to have more control over contrast, lighting, and the like.

The Rebel does not have in-camera special effects like b&w like some of the digital point and shoot cameras. You can, however, convert any picture to b&w with the Elements software included with the camera. There are several ways to do this so I suggest you try the help menu/tutorials included with the software for the easy method and also search this forum for black & white conversion. There was a great post on the subject recently.

Have fun!

OR you can buy a B&W CF card.

It gives you better contrast and etc.....

Desaturate in Photoshop.

Not the best way, but without question the easiest.

There are about 20 different methods to turn something black and white in photoshop. Desaturate is the least effective.........Search the board, you will find tons of stuff.

As mentioned the rebel does not have this feature built in.

An important note. If you know you are going to be making a shot B&W, make sure you dont overexpose at all. In fact, slight underexposure is welcome. You may get additional noise in the final product, but that often is a good thing in B&W.
