Placed order with B&H today with 50mm f1.4 + hood + UV filter + 1.4x TC, help please!!!

I barely have money in my bank, yet everytime i get paid, i'll be sniffing around B&H and here to see if there is anything that i want and fits my budget.

After ordering the new lens, i was browsing on ebay to see if i can find a used 1D, i know i can't afford a 1D MK II at the moment, but i'd like to get used to the control n stuff, also the smaller crop factor, until the day i have enough money to get myself a MK II. then i'll have 10D or 1D as backup.

Do you think it's worth getting a used 1D for a relatively good price? say GBP 1,700 ish? How much were they when they first came out?

When the 1D FIRST came out? About $6,000.00 or more...

It was in the $5,500.00 range for a few years... just before they were discontinued they dropped to about $3,000.00 (all in US funds fyi)

Resale prices seem to go from $2,000.00 to $2,700.00 depending on condition ...

Yes.. the 1D is definatley worth it. I'd have kept it if I didn't have the MkII for sure.. ad there are those that prefer it to the MkII for various reasons..

watch the buy sell sections here and at FredMiranda and Sportshooter... you'd be liekly to get a better price than on E-bay.

the one i found is refurbished with warranty and factory box sealed, good enough for the price?

I don't know the conversion.. (approx $3,400.00?)

...nor what used ones sell for in the UK?

But a refurb with a warranty is a good thing and if it isn't on E-bay it's lees of a gamble. )

The going rate in the UK for a used 1D, not even re-furbed, is between £1,800 and £2,000, They are like hen's teeth in good condition. I don't think you will get a better deal.

If I sold mine today, bearing in mind it is heavily used and has the odd battle scar, I would easily get £1,800 for it.

Go for it, at that price it is a bargain.

just emailed another sports shooter on another forum who's selling his backup 1D, mint condition, with spare battery, $2000, and that's USD, so i'd save a lot of money by doing that, just waiting for his confirmation on that.

Shall i keep my 10D or just go for 1D? I do have a small financial gap here, i'd be much better off if i sell my 10D then get a 1D, or i can wait for a short while, until i saved up enough to get one from the states.

suggestions?

I see them on the FM board for $2200, which is about right...............

The 1D is a great camera, but the 10D has some benefits being the newer camera that the 1D can't compete with. I asked Belmondo about this a little while ago, and learned one thing. It really depends on what you want out of photography. In a lot of cases the 10D is more applicable to your needs then a 1D might be.

If you are not sure about upgrading, dont until you reserach it to the bone. IMHO, if you already own the 10D dont bother upgrading. Controll your urge to buy lenses, save the extra grand you would be spending on the 1d and wait for a mkII. If you buy a 1d right now, all you do is set yourself back on buying the mkII. I really don't find the idea of buying the MKI to prepare yourself for the MKII a really logical idea.

If you are wanting the 1D for sports, then the difference between it and the 10D is huge. The 10D just can't compete in a number of areas. The 1D has an AF system that is bullet-proof and out-of-the-camera images that hardly need processing. It handles exposure far better and you don't get the blown out skies ruining shots like you do with the 10D. I could go on but I think you get the point. I have had both for a long time so I know the differences very well.

I print 1D images comfortably up to A3, so don't think the loss of 2mp is something to worry about. But, if you are strapped for cash and the factory re-furb warranty isn't of any value to you, I would just keep saving.

If you do consider a used 1D without the chance of giving it the once-over, remember that most of them get pretty beat up being working cameras. As I said, mine has battle scars and I am more careful than most. A couple of thousand shutter activations a weekend is not unusual for a working pro, which can quickly eat into shutter life.

Sports is the direction i'm going at the moment, most likely to be a football snapper.

I know 1D's AF system is far better and faster than 10D's, and I really do wanna get my hands on one. For now, i guess saving up for a used one is the best option for me.
