sGu, have you tried Ritz Camera? I bought mine there, and they didn't seem to have trouble getting one. This was over a month ago.

I also ordered mine from Ritz about 2 months ago with good results. I left a credit card number and received the camera 2 weeks later. My card was not charged until the order shipped and I was assured that I could cancel the order without penalty if the camera became available elsewhere. I bought my Digital rebel from them also and have been very impressed with the company.

I got my 10D/Big Ed from Ritz. The first flunkie I got didn't speak English and that was well not cool. I called back straight away and with a lot of sarcasm said that I was impressed to find someone that speaks English. It almost seems like it is asking too much these days to have English speaking customer service agents. Well, if I had my business xxx it would be straight English and nothing else, not even French which I speak. It took a month to get the camera over here to England, but the end of the day it worked out fine. I'd do business with them again, they are safe.

For all you folks looking for a 1d MkII, you might try what I did. I placed an order with a local camera shop and they got one for me in about two weeks.
First I went to the local pro shop. Wasn't even serious about getting a MkII. My Drebel was only three months old and I was having a great time with it. I saw a MkII box on the shelf and asked if they had one in the store. Yes they do, but its their rental camera ($200/day!!) I made the BIG mistake of asking to see it. Once I had it in my hands I was smitten. The Rebel looked and felt like a toy now. Are you expecting any in, says I. Yeah, we get about one a month. We've got a long waiting list. Whew! Temptation gone.
A couple of weeks later, on a Saturday, I'm in a rinky-dink little camera shop in a rinky-dink little town where I had bought my Rebel. "Got any MkII's?" "Nope. Nobody's ever asked about one. You're the first. Want one?" Sure, says I.
Monday, I get a call from the shop. "The Canon rep thinks he can get one in about a week. I went ahead and ordered it." About a week later he calls. "The Canon rep didn't get a single camera in this week but he's sure he will get a few next week. Do you want to cancel?"
Hell no! A week later, another call. "It's here!" :D
The rep told my dealer that at that time, he had over 300 MkII's back ordered and received an allotment of six that week. He gave this dealer one of the six because the dealer is a long time customer (second generation family business) who pays his bills promptly, sells only Canon products and is in a region where there is little demand for high end products.
I can't reveal the name of the dealer because he probably used his relationship with the rep to divert a camera from someone who has been waiting for a long time. To be honest, I feel a bit guilty having one of these beauties when so many of you have been waiting (im)patiently for yours. I mention my experience not to gloat but to offer a suggestion on how you might be able to find one a little sooner. Finding one at the major outlets seems to be hit or miss, although the supply does seem to be getting better. Don't overlook the neighborhood dealer - he may be very friendly with the regional rep.

to be honest, i don't think i can afford one at the moment, but what i'm thinking is sell my 10D and get a 1D to play with, get used to the control, menu etc. so that way i can smoothly upgrade to MK II.

'My' MII has been on order now for exactly 2 weeks, with Henry's. When ordered they did say it would be several weeks. So I am sitting here very patient, fingers crossed AND VERY HOPEFUL!! Will post when it arrives. [F.R.]

Ha, ha. If you're anything like me (and you sure do sound like me), nothing
but the real thing will do. Go for it. You can afford it.

I think i found a buyer for my 10D w/grip, extra batteries and dual charger, i'm gonna throw couple of other things in tomorrow for him, and once i get the cash, i'll go for a refurbished 1D, even though i have to put down nearly 500 pound more on top of 10D sale, i think it would definitely worth the money, just hope nobody snatch it away before i can get my funds together ... gotta keep praying

Wow, I feel awful! I work at Ritz and a coworker of mine sold one to some know nothing rich guy. He was asking us "So is this thing pretty fast?" I'm like "hell yah!" then i regurgitated like 2 pages of statistics and specs that i'd studied on the MKII. I swear he went crosseyed! Long story short he bought one and I feel terrible now that it ended up in the hands of an amatuer who'll probably set it on his desk for visitors to admire.
Sigh... well if any of you are in the San Francisco area and want me to call you when my store gets them again, let me know via pm. Last time we received two of them, so next wednesday i'll know if we've got more.
Now time to let the salesman in me rear it's ugly head! Don't pm unless you're pretty darn sure you'd like the Extended Service (1yr ~$600). It covers outright destruction of the camera. No joke, the rule of thumb is if we can read a serial number, you're covered. We try to fix the thing, and if we can't we replace it within about a month. Plus we do free cmos cleaning as many times as you want while you're under our service plan, and we just added image recovery service too. Something messed up the file table on your mega big CF card... no problem our software has been 93% effective so far. Anyway, let me know. Happy shooting everyone.
Oh and BTW if I'm disobeying some rule about retailers basically advertising on the forum or something like that, just remove my post, and i'll understand.
