i feel like i get a little sharpening-happy sometimes when i'm editing. i usually use 170(ish), 4, 2, respectively. the picture below is an example of one i think might be oversharpened. let me know what you think?

60, 1.2 on almost everything...it's my default setting during RAW conversion and I very rarely sharpen more in PP. But I don't know...it works for me.
I really can't tell for sure on that image if it's oversharpened...but it looks okay.
(edit) here are some shots I did recently and processed with those settings: http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=375085

Doesn't look oversharp to me.
I use photokit sharpener, USM was causing me too many worries

Depends on the lens & aperture used and final size, but I typically do 15/50/0 for clarity then 60/.3/0 or thereabouts for detail for POTN size webbies.

Default in ACR, then something like 50-150/1.5/3 USM if I decide to do any more.

Have you tried using Smart Sharpen? Much more user friendly and seems to be less prone to halos and artifacts.
You can also save presets - so you can have one for screen, one for print etc etc.

I don't sharpen. In fact, I don't think I've used USM since... 2002.
Lightroom sharpen sucks too. Makes everything look like puckered lips.
I have found just using sharp glass and hitting focus does the job. People order 20x30 prints and it still looks fine.
If I want it to have a touch of sharpening, I use the high pass sharpening method. Seems to be more pleasing than USM. But I still almost never use that.

I'm thinking the sharp glass/ good focus method is all i need. I'm using my 5D with 24-70, and 70-200 2.8IS, so as long as i'm ok on the focus, that combo should be good and sharp. Thanks for the input everyone.

I use the High Pass method (which I'm I believe is the exact same sharpening as USM).

I use high pass or, more recently, KK's Magic Sharp.

ACR and Lightroom sharpenin is very grainy, I avoid it.
I prefer to do USM either 100, 0.7, 0 or 200, 0.3, 0
Usually add it as a layer and paint it on where needed, no point in over sharpening the scenery.
