VERY NICE!! Love available light....... Maybe burn the overhead lights in #4 a little? I found my eye going straight to them when I first look at the picture. Their verticle line leads my eye to the statue at the end of the hall.

Very nice series. You've done it again! They are all very good, #1 with her face reflection in perfect focus is great. #4 I wish the groom was a little more emotional there, he looks a little stiff, but a nice shot of the hall.

I am an available light monster! I love A.L. shots. I love them all, but the expression on #3 doesn't seem to work well to me.

Great Job! ...Man, I need a 5D!

Jamie, Beautiful shots as always! Question, I see you are shooting at 1600 and even 3200 ISO on several of these yet noise is very minimal. Yet when I shoot at 1600 with my XT sometimes the noise is more than I can stand. Is the noise (or lack there of) in your shots due to a better camera/lens, pp, or the fact the shots are posted at a smaller size here for viewing so not as noticable. Would you be happy printing these for the customer say if they wanted something larger than 8x10. Just curious as sometimes shooting high ISO scares me to death LOL Thanks,

Greg

i believe lack of noise due to
a) lenses and
b) 5d's ability to cope up to iso3200

anyhow - jamie - awesome shots! and the word that keeps popin in my head is mm creamy
her skin looks like really yummy icecream or cream - yummy

I can't believe #4 was shot at ISO3200...It seems so sharp?! Did you run it through noise doctor or ninja? Great work!

Ones again you did a great job! What was your lighting in the bouquet toss pic? Looks like a pretty strong strobe to the back, left side (of the pic)

Thanks everyone - great feedback here (and I really mean that ;))

Nice shots, look like job really well done...it would have been nice to the brides new wedding ring on the one with the flowers....love them all though.

I got one of those too! This one was just a quick grab shot at the door of the church while we waited for the ceremony to start. We did a "rings and flowers" shot with the bride and groom after the ceremony.

VERY NICE!! Love available light....... Maybe burn the overhead lights in #4 a little? I found my eye going straight to them when I first look at the picture. Their verticle line leads my eye to the statue at the end of the hall.

Great point - they were so much brighter than the rest of the hall (which was as dark as a cave), I'll see if I can bring them down a bit.

3 I love...again...but it seems slightly un level...

Thanks Grace. This is a tough one. The bench and molding on the floor are level, but the mirror and ceiling line are slightly off. If I tip it to make the ceiling and mirror perfectly square then the bench and the floorboard are slightly off. Dang perspective issues.

...but the expression on #3 doesn't seem to work well to me.

You and my wife both, one of the reasons I posted it here. She's not real crazy about the expression, I like the light, I wanted to see how other folks felt...

Noise control is really a matter of exposure control than any other factor IMHO. I shoot a lot at 1600, and find that the noise really exhibits itself in the shadow areas of the photos. So I try to overexpose the highlights/midtones by 1/3 a stop or so and then bring down the exposure later in PS to avoid the noise. Where I really see noise is when I underexpose a scene and have to bring it up - so i try to avoid this scenario. I also have an XT and don't hesitate to shoot it at 1600.

Xtravaluemeal - and since this partly answers your question, the 2nd part is regarding noiseninja. I don't use it. By doing my best to nail the exposure a little on the hot side, i end up with noise that isn't objectionable to me.

Though the 5D is pretty nice at high ISO's!

2 strobes (a Sunpak 622 and a Sunpak 120J on stands) - one on each corner of the dance floor that you don't see in the frame (i.e. one to camera right that is lighting up the bride and one to the camera left at the rear of the room lighting up the girls. I intercepted the bride as the DJ called her up for the toss and tlod her where to stand, so I could make sure that the light hit her just right.

Wow these are enough to make me buy a 5D!

Great shots, your ISO1600 looks like my ISO100 :(

You are doing magic with those 5D's!Your AL shots are delightful. You've really got a handle on the portable strobes. Composition is great. Try the perspective control in PS lens correction for 3, or free transform.

Oh, and tell me about the Holga on a body cap? Thanks.
Cheers!

Jamie, great shots as always! From looking at #1 and #7, it is so hard to believe that the available light were five stops or so more than #2. May be it is just me not getting enough sleep

Thanks again guys.

...Oh, and tell me about the Holga on a body cap?

Not much to say - it's a holga lens mounted on a EOS body cap. I bought mine from the folks at Holgamods.com (http://www.holgamods.com/xt/xt.html). It's a little tricky to focus, but it works great with the camera in AV mode...and it's a fun effect. I keep forgetting to use it, so I asked this bride and groom to remind me.

Exposure is like that :D. Went from the bright window light in #1 to the dark bedroom of the suite in #2 to the bright entrance to the church in #7. It was a very bright day...

Just curious, why did you shoot the bouquet shot in P mode?

I was shooting candids in the foyer of the church and the light was falling off quickly as you moved away from the open church door. Since I was shooting quick grab shots in rapidly changing light, P mode made the most sense to me. AV probably would have worked just as well, but I didn't really care about controlling my DOF during the candid snaps I was taking.

Jamie,

Did you have to EC any of these since you used mostly AV mode? Do you meter when you can? By the way, I am heading out to Boston from 10/19 to 10/24 to spent some time with friends and also attend a conference. We will be siting seeing in Boston, Portland, and even driving to Central Park! Do you have a wedding booked during those dates...may be a dumb questions since you are most likely booked every weekend. Thanks for responding and assisting those who wants to learn.

Buckeye - #1 EVComp=0, #2 EVComp=+.3, #7 EVComp=0. I tend to shoot, look at my histogram, and adjust EVComp as necessary.

Love to have you along, I do have a wedding on 10/20. PM me for details...
