Hi all. I have about 400 pics that need to be down sized. I don't have Adobe CS or anything like that...though I should and will. I use windows vista, I was just wondering how I could compress the photos? A client wants to see my portfolio and I don't want them to have the original file sizes.
Thanks.

I use Image Resizer for quick smaller duplicates,
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/downloads/powertoys/xppowertoys.mspx

This PowerToy enables you to resize one or many image files with a right-click.

I use ACDSee pro, it has a handful of batch tools for resizing, watermarks, converting, and many others.

It also displays photographs instantly unlike the windows view that takes a couple of seconds. This counts when you have 6000 photographs from one weekend.

I second this one. It doesn't get any easier to use and they still look good.

Paul - I certainly hope you don't plan to dump a 400-image "portfolio" on anybody. That's like making your family members watch four hours of dull home movies. As others have mentioned before, trim it down to no more than 20 or so representative images that show the breadth of your talent.

If you've got the Canon software, Zoombrowser can do it using the Export function.

Surprised no one mentioned FastStone Photo Resizer (freeware). I've tried all the others mentioned and then some and nothing compares.

I have a great free program called Photo Gadget found it on a google search. It works great has a few preset sized and you can also put in a custom size. It will keep the proportions for you and it can rename them if you want.
