Hi!
unfortuatelly I cant find any post with this topic? Am I'm the first who want to know this? hmm????
ok, so anybody uses a M42 adapter on his/her 10D? I just want to know if it is working (for sure, manual focus, manual aperture,etc...) but is it working?
I have several lenses with M42 mount and just want to try them.... but is it worth the money?
thanks!
best regards Peter

docfrankenstein has posted a link to a company that makes such an adaptor. Since I'm not terribly interested in going that route myself, I didn't read any of it in any detail. Still, your answer might be here.

I can't speak for the 10D, but I can confirm the drebel works fine with this set up. I use an adapter to connect to an old Yahica bellows and various M42 mount lenses. You can use AV, TV or M modes for metering. Focusing is problematic , at least with the drebel's viewfinder.

Definitely worth trying, especially if you have lenses already!

I've heard that you can't make the lenses focus to infinity with the adapter. Is it true? The description on the site says this:
For using Canon EOS cameras with M42 lenses (Praktica, Zenit). Metric scale M42 keeps its meanings due to compensation of the flange bases difference. Therefore focusing can be to infinity.
I have a problem with that "can". Does it mean that some of the lenses will focus to infinity while other wont. Or does it mean that it "can" if you want it to?
From what I understand, the mount will place the lens at the same distance to the sensor as it would be to the film in the old cameras. This will allow you to get infinity focus. Right?
Will the lenses focus to infinity? Is it gonna make much of a difference if I stop down the lens and shoot at almost infinity?

The "can" is weak language. The correct word is "does".
The EF mount has a backfocus distance of 44mm, while the M42 puts the lens a hair farther from the film at 45.5mm. Plus, the M42 mount is narrower. Consequently, it will nestle down into the EF body easily, and the adaptor can be made of metal rather than negative space.
With a single adaptor, all proper M42 lenses will indeed focus to infinity on a Canon EOS body. If it doesn't, it's because the adaptor is faulty, or (much more likely) because the lens is out of adjustment and would not focus to infinity on any camera.

Don't worry. There are thousands of people using M42 lenses with contemporary cameras. I have never heard of any problems with infinity focusing. My 135mm focuses smoothly everywhere, inluding infinity :D

Hi I use M42 to Canon adaptor rings and lense on my 10D and don't have any problems.
Though I have just bought a Paragon 500mm lens (m42 fitting) it works fine on the 10D, but when you add a x2 teleconvertor it ERRORs out. I'm a bit stuck now as to a solution for that one. I hope it's helped you thought.

I have a M42 adapter attached to a Pentax screw mount 500mm F4.5 telephoto that I use with a Canon 10D.
It works fine.
You do have to carefully focus, and manually stop the aperture down.
But, I get nice sharp images.
I also have an Olympus OM to Canon EOS adapter and use an Olympus OM Zuiko 24mm F2.8 lens. This is a very sharp combo.
There are no infinity focus issues on either of these particular adapters on a Canon EOS body.
Enjoy! Lon

Ebay ... all my lenses but one use adapters and I like them. Slows you down and makes you focus on developing the craft of photography as well as composition. Enjoy!
