a couple of years ago when I bought my 20d I was able to save alot of money by using Canon's rebates. Is this something they do every fall? Is it at the same time every year? I would like to buy a 40d but is it worth waiting a month or 2 to see what canon has planned?

I did some googling and found what I need. Oct 15 looks like when Fall Rebates will be. Probably be able to save a couple of hundred on a new 40d at that time.

i had a very bad experiance with this i sent in about 250 bucks worth of rebates with my 30d and a few lens and sent everything they needed it took me like an hour cutting the pop's off the box's and copying all the pink slips and all that stuff then i sent it priority mail and get a card back telling me that i did not send the pink slips and i was missing stuff that iknow i sent and i made copys of everything and still they said they didnt have it faxed it all to them and they still never paid me i have to say kinda left a bad taste in my mouth about the way they did that i have to say i would not bank on a canon rebate again

I wouldn't look for rebates this soon after initial release. Nothing against you, but I hope I'm not wrong? Be a bummer to have it rebated after I just bought one. :(
I rebated the 30D and 100-400 [?] one of the lens? , no problems.:)

I had something similar happen to me. I called their bluff. I know I had copies of everything I sent them. Told them I had time to let the courts sort things out. Had my money in a week. These people pray on the weak.

Yeah you are probably right...the 20d had been out for about a year when i bought it. I didnt have any problems with canon rebates but have heard horror stories. That is what rebates are for......I believe it is somewhat of a scam and they do prey on the unorganized or weak.

They did away with the mail-in rebates in favor of instant rebates last time, yes?

B and H is listing a $100 rebate on the 40d right now through the end of November. Granted, they're also backordered.

I started a thread about that rebate, you have to buy a printer with it.
But I think Canon had a lot of problems with the company they hired in the US for the last few rebates. I did get my money out of it, but I doubt I'd do a rebate again. Famous last words. :(

I wouldn't expect any rebates in Oct on the 40D. They are too hard to find in Sept to have rebates in Oct.
I just happened across one at Best Buy but all the mail orders are back ordered.

I had the same problem. I was over it for almost 2 months. Last time, I talked tp a supervisor, took her name and told her I would give it to my lawyer. Next day, I received an email AND a phone call saying that everything was sorted out, I should receive my money within 20 days. You can be sure I'll check that very closely ;-)

Last years fall rebate did offer 300.00 on a 5D, or 600.00 if purchased with another qualifying product. (double rebates). Hope they will do it again, but as stated by others, probably not for a 40D as it is too new.
this link is for LAST YEARS fall rebates.

I just hope that if they do offer rebates they do it like they did this last round. Instant rebates. I always said that if a company really wanted to give you money off it would just take it off of the price and not a mail in rebate. Mail in rebates are their way of avoiding having to give money off.

They have posted the Canon rebates up in Europe, so I am sure how this relates to us here in the US. The rebate for the 5D is 200 EUR, so converting that to US dollar, it would be ~280? I really hope the rebate on the 5D is larger than that here. Its interesting as there is also a rebate for the 40D. And all these rebates seem to be like last spring, INSTANT.

Exciting news...but ouch...I wanted to buy a 5d and 40d and some lenses next week, but sounds like I will really need to hold off for the rebates. Think they will hit here when??? mid Oct?

I don't get the feeling that was/is an official Canon rebate, maybe a e-seller deal like some in New Jersy, already offering the 40D for $950?
Let the buyer beware?
But I can't read German:confused:

I am debating the 85L... we'll see but any rebate would definitely help that expensive booger.

Sort of a slap in the face to long time Canonites, rebates within three months or so of introduction. And a double slap to me, just bought a f2.8 100mm Macro.
Think I'll dig my old Sony FD-71 out and go take pictures of a "bus exhaust"..

I am too busy playing with my new big shiny Apple! I would rather get it from Apple anyway...and I got a better discount than that through a friend. So not going to beat ya up...any word on rebates? I am going nuts now for new cams and lenses.
