Just received this to go with my 20D. Anyone else have a problem when using 2 batteries whereby you have to place pressure on the battery door on the lower left side of the grip ? I will try an remedy it by glueing something to inside to create the pressure.. but just wondering if anyone had come across the same issue.
Works fine with just one battery..

Is the batteries fitting properly? I have seen some people talk about the batteries aren't fitting right... This is only if your using aftermarket batteries... If their the Canon ones then they should just slide in...

Hmm, not sure if its the batteries not going in the holder, or the holder not going into the grip properly. Because it works with one battery, it would suggest the first of these two. I'll see how I get on with two proper Canon batteries...

This may not fix your problem, but it fixed mine. ;)
look deep into the channel the battery boat slide into. Is your spring kinked?
I took a pen and un-kinked it.. like 2 seconds and it was done.
Now the battery 'boat' slides home to bottom a lot easier.

I'll give it a go - cheers for the pointer.

Are you talking about the BP-511 batteries? With the Canon grip, the 511/511A batteries slide directly into the grip without any type of holder. The only holder the Canon grip has is the one for AA batteries...

This is about the opteka grip

I think you misunderstood. I know you're talking about the Opteka grip. What I was trying to find out is do you have to put the BP-511 type batteries in a separate holder before inserting them into the Opteka grip? If so, this is different from the Canon grip for the 20D. The 511 batteries slide into the grip Canon without a holder. The Canon grip does use a holder for AA batteries.
Edit: On the Opteka grip do you insert the batteries from the end, rather than the back?

the opteka has a 6 X aaa battery holder,
and a 2 X 511 holder.
I understood you.
*edit, yes you install them from the end, either battery 'boat' go in from the end.

OK, I always assumed, from reading other posts about the Opteka grip that stated "the Opteka is made from the same molds as the Canon grip" that the batteries were inserted from the back, like the Canon. See, it is possible to teach old dogs new tricks. ;)
It's probably just as well I have the Canon grip because I have an RRS "L" bracket on the camera that would block changing the batteries on the Opteka grip.

I think the 20d opteka grip is an upsized version of their grip for the xt(i).
They used the same design principle. And the opteka xt(i) grip is made like the canon xt(i) one, which has the 2 battery boat design (i think).
Cheers

I haven't spent much time around any of the Rebel series cameras. Several of my friends have them, but I never paid any attention to the grips.

well.. tried it with 2 proper canon batteries this morning and it works fine. Looks like my 3rd party batteries aren't quite the right size / shape or whatever.

the plot thickens....
started turning off with Canon batteries this evening!
Turns out the problem is with the battery door on the grip. There is a little switch that is pressed in by the door to stop the camera turning on when its open. This wasn't being pushed in far enough. A little sticky pad on the inside of the door has fixed the problem.
