Are there any photographers that use Sigma lenses for weddings? Specifically the 28-70 EX 2.8 & the 18-50 EX 2.8. I have the 28-70 and want to get the 18-50 next. My worry though is that I had some problems focusing in low light with the 28-70, I can't imagine the 18-50 is much better at focusing. Let me say right away...I would love to get the Canon 17-55 IS, but that is out of the question...for a long time! I don't do enough weddings (yet) to spend that much money on one lens, for now, I'll just rent it, and the Sigma lenses have done great for parties and other things that I use them for.

Next...I have the 50mm 1.8 and love it, I want to upgrade to the 1.4, BUT...I also want the 85 1.8. I'm wondering if any of you have used the 85 1.8 for weddings and found it to be a more useful focal range than the 50mm for weddings. My plan was to get the 85 1.8, giving me a 50 & 85 1.8, but I've read SO much about the 50 1.4 on here... So, should I keep the 50 1.8 and buy the 85 1.8, or sell the 50 1.8 and buy the 50 1.4?

For my next two weddings I will be using an XTI and Digital Rebel, with rented 70-200 2.8 IS and 17-50 2,8 IS. Since it's so inexpensive to rent lenses right now, I'm going to use any extra money I have to save for a 40D & 20D or 30D backup. I'm not a pro and don't do much photography for pay, but I've stumbled into a few opportunities after doing my first few weddings for free.

I have actually used my Sigma 17-70 for a lot of weddings. A few factors could be the case though---it is typically my walk around setup on a backup 20d. I carry it everywhere and am very comfortable with it. I am not afraid to drag it everywhere and sometimes it hangs with me no matter what other setups I have with me. I hate to admit it but I have never used the 50 1.8 for weddings --other than engagement sessions---I think with the right lighting it would be a great lens to use. I might hang it on a backup and use it as much as possible this weekend.
Good questions---I happen to be a Sigma fan and still keep a strong collection. Great affordable products with fantastic service....imho.
