Despite my efforts, i have been unable to remove that fried egg look of the sun in any satisfactory way. Does anyone have any ideas?

Those highlights are blownout so you won't be able to get them back. It is still a very good picture, though.

Paint in the center using the edge ring color using the brush tool in Photoshop.

By highlight you mean the sun or is there something else?

I tried it with just the color of the outer ring of yellow of the sun and it looked much better.

I meant the center of the sun. Cloning from the outside ring is definitely a good option.

i dont have any suggestions, but the composition is great. I like how you have broken the norm and gone with a unique angle.

Very rich oranges.

Nice Image.
Very difficult shot to get right IMO - wish the ones I've tried had turned out half as good.

I probably agree with the cloning.

The magic wand tool in Photoshop should be able to help you. I've used it
in the past to color in blown out traffic lights.
