Nice shot, I love shots of goalies when you can see him/her actually making the shot. When my sister played goalie in college those were the shots I always tried to get.
(up by his left shoulder ;-))
I love the perspective of shot two as well, almost like a look a shooter would have.

I think the goalie is hoping the high shot doesn't hurt his shoulder, ouch. great shots.

The puck actually hit him where the collar of his jersey forms a white V & ended up inside the chin part of his helmet! He took a few seconds to compose himself & was ok after that.

Tough to see in both of them.
I'm still not sure if I see it in the second one..

Take a look at the guy screening the netminder (where his visor meets his helmet).

Great shots! The player to the right in shot 2 must be thinking "Ooh, that's gonna hurt!"

Awesome pix. Ya the collar bones aren't too well protected for goalies and always hurt bad. I added in extra padding up there when I played juniors. Wow 1/800 how'd u get the light inside a hockey rink for that.

Just after warm up, I took some test shots in manual of the net area at ISO1250, f3.2. I then checked the histogram & settled at 1/800th, f3.2. I do shoot in RAW which helps with any underexposure.
I used to shoot with the camera set on aperture priority & the largest aperture available (evaluative metering) but found this a little hit & miss. Setting in manual as described above gave me more consistant results.
Also, I think the rink may have put some new lamps etc. in since last season.
Hope this helps.

them's some lights. my typical rink around here is ISO1600 f2.8 1/500 or dimmer. There's one that I can only shoot with my 135 f2 wide open at ISO3200, 1/500.

.
i played last hockey session with a visor like in the the second pic...i think its easier to see out of, but you always take the chance of taking a puck or stick to the face/teeth.
i think i will switch back my my cage. if i got payed to play hockey, that would be a different story.
great pics btw. took me a second to find it on the 2nd pic, but the first was obvious, to me anyway.
