Good Morning,
I have two questions, 1. can and does the above lense fit on a digital rebel?
2. How are optics on this lense vs. the non is type/

Thanks,
otlip, new to digital

Yeah it will fit on a Rebel - Any EF lens does

There isn't a non-IS version of the 100-400, but if you mean the Canon 400mm f5.6L Prime lens then that has a slight image quality edge over the 100-400 Zoom lens.

Yes, it will fit. Any EOS lens will fit your Rebel. (Although the Rebel kit lens will not fit all EOS bodies.)

I'm not aware that Canon ever made a non-IS version of the 100-400, although there's a lot I'm not aware of. Optically, it's a very good lens. Most people that own it swear by it.

I do.

1) I believe the dRebel takes all the Canon EF lenses as do all Canon EOS cameras. The only lens that is different is the kit lens for the dRebel which doesn't fit on any other camera.

2) Canon doesn't make a 100-400 L without IS so you can't really compare it to anything in that range.
Speaking from my little experience of owning the 100-400 L IS (3 months), It's the best lens I've ever had and hand holding this lens at max zoom gives very sharp results. While it is an expensive lens, if you have a need for that range, it's an excellent lens for the money!

Might as well show it one more time ... my airshow photos.

Great photos :)

There is an airshow here in the UK tomorrow but the weather forecast is grey clouds and I don't fancy paying and taking the trip for dull photos.

WAW. These are great photos. You can make many of them into posters. Excellent work.

Johneo, great shots, but i couldn't help noticing some black spots on the image, same place on every image, u might wanna clean your sensor. I just did mine last week, oh boy, now it's spotless!!
