Anybody know good collage programs to create collages like this one:

This one which one which is not so good because of the overlapping photo in the bottom to the right was made with the CollageMaker from www.galleriasoftware.com.

But I think it lacks a few things.

First, when adding photos it is not possible to scroll pas the canvas size to reduce size of photos that when lined up to other photos extend beyond the border. To reduze such a photo I have to move the photo and resize, then move back to see if it fits. And it is not possible to resize a photo by entering the exact size manually in pixels.

Next thing is that the photos is not easy to position with the mouse and it is not possible to manually enter the exact position in pixels.

Also it would be nice if the program was able to make create a collage automatically when selecting a number of photos and a selecting a size for the canvas instead of having to position and resize all photos manually. But I don't know if any programs can do that.

If you have a program with Layers, try doing it by hand for the most control.

I always have problems getting pics embedded with this software so the link is http://www.pbase.com/santa/collages in the event this embed doesn't work. There are a couple other collage examples there.

Photoshop is definitely a good choice. By using layers, and by using layer MASKS you have total flexibility and the original picture is never erased or altered so you can go back and change the collage at any time.

a google search of photoshop collages automatic will turn up a fair number of methods and programs that may assist in automating the process but to create good collages you'll find automation pretty much a bore and too limiting
