Regarding "exec cmd"

Does EE use "exec cmd" for the execution of programs like imagemagic?

Need to know in order to upgrade to PHP 5.

exec or passthru (selectable). If you use GD library you do not need those either.

I am using imagemagik not GD. Please tell me where can I select exec or passthru. Is this a setting in the EE backend admin tool?

I fear if I upgrade to PHP5 suddenly I wont be able to upload images anymore.

Sorry for all the questions. Working with databases is totally new to me.
