its a lovely idea to have a bench for people to sit on and rest ....in memory of a person. the man was a great age (90)
he probably organized having the bench there before he died
the name came out really well in the photograph.
I saw one last week by the harbour and thought it a great way of remembering someone and giving pleasure to future generations
the bench is placed in a spot with a sea view.
they can be enjoyed for many years by all those still in the earthly bustle of life :)

We have many benches around here in hiking areas dedicated in memory of particular people. I always think it's a great tribute.
Excellent capture of this one.

I know in the town of Sullivan, MO the local garden club has several trees and shrub in town with plaque "in memory of..." placed at their bases.
Good idea and I am sure other town do this as well.

Wow not a bad/ok comments. All good!! Thanks so much for the comments, nice to see my work is appreciated!
I will never forget i was climbing a mountain ridge in the Lake district somewhere and it got to a paticually dangerious section of the ridge, just before there was a plaque with the names of the climbers that had died on the next section lol. At the time is was quite nervious! I can easily see how they died too, must have been a huge drop! and when i did it, it was thick fog so you couldn't see.

Really like the composition, Will, and the conversion seems perfect. There are benches like that around here too. It's great when you're out hiking looking for landscape and birds and stuff, then sit to imagine the life of the one who's name is on the bench. Yes, a great tribute.

It does seem to be quite a fitting tribute to some people, to erect a bench at maybe one of their favourite places when they pass on, so others can sit and take time out & enjoy the same thoughts and outlooks.
