My Sony Vaio came with some terrible backup software - StorageSynch. It takes forever to run a backup (I'm talking well more than 12 hours) and always glitches.
What else is out there to try?

Thanks, I got error messages two times on the search function this morning, so figured it was down.
Appreciate the links!

Via another thread here on POTN, I found this (http://www.karenware.com/powertools/ptreplicator.asp) just last night and installed it. Ran it for the first time overnight. It is awesome in the sense it is basic, simple, easy to use, and contains all the needed functions for backups, syncing folders, etc. without all the "bloat" found in so many commercial applications. Best of all, it is free tho I will note I was so pleased with the job it did I will be sending a dontation.

I use Microsof't SyncToy program for all my backups - From the 12 hours you quote i assume you are trying to back up your entire system? - I don't bother with this, i can easily restore a system with the original discs etc. but it's the personal data I concentrate on (Pictures, Music, Documents etc.)- the stuff you can't buy in the shops :-)

Based on recommendations here I use Acronis True Image. I like it.
