I have 1 580 EX and 2 430 Ex's that I'd like to use to do skateboard sequence shots. Is there a battery system that will allow the flash to fire 3-5 times per second.

Thanks in advance.

High ISO, wide open lens, NiMh batteries.
My 580 EX keeps up with my 1DMk2 for about 5 shots at 1/8 or 1/16 power IIRC.
The more flash you need, the longer it'll take to charge (and the sooner you're going to burn the head)

If you are talking stroboscopic flash (3-5 flashes in one exposure): There is a setting for that on the flash ;)

Thanks Rene for the info.

I need the flash to keep up with 12 - 15 shots.
I guess I should read the manuals.

Is there a way to do the strobscopic flash on mulitple frames??

Ed, don't expect the three flashes to work as a group and work at the speed you are hoping for. The communication between flash units takes time.

I believe that René was describing manual operation of one 580EX.

Also, note that Rene indicated thay your only hope at keeping up at several frames a seconds for as few as 5 frames is to have the flash on relatively low power (he indicates 1/8 or 1/16 power levels).

You are going to have a very hard time locating a consumer hotshoe type flash that will give you a 15 shot burst at anything more that very tiny power levels (say 1/64th power or so).

To accomplish relatively high power levels at 5 frames per second for 15 frame bursts is going to require some very specialized, and likely very expensive flash gear. It is also likely to be rather large.

Enjoy! Lon

thanks lon.

I was hoping to be able to get the flash to fire 8-12 times in a 3-5 sec time range....

oh well.

Thanks all for the info.
