I have had this camera for 6 months and once in a while it hangs up and the only way to unhang it is to remove the battery. The hang seems to occur after I have used it and it's timing out to turn the power off.

Has anyone else seen this problem ?

Hi.

I have myself a D30 and never had this problem (not yet;)). However, i have heard of a problem whith the auto powwer off function.
Have a look on www.dpreview.com D30 firmware upgrade. Apparently the last update is supposed to fix a problem that relates to the auto power off function. It might be the solution to your problem.

Good luck.

Thanks,

I have downloaded the latest firmware now, but the write up specifically says it doesn't fix this problem and that the camera needs to be taken in to Canon.

I think you just answered your own question. :)

It appears you have one of the early D30s, and will have to send it in to Canon to have the problem fixed. If you can live without the camera for a few days, send it in, if not, try and avoid the "auto off" feature. Set the camera to "never" turn off, or set the time limit higher.
