I know this has been beaten to death, but after searching a few post I'm more confused than before.
I know I need 2 PW one receive and one transmit.
I know the PW transmit site on the camera hotshoe and plugs into the side of my 30D.
How does the PW reeciver plug into my speedlite 580ex - old one.
Do I need to purchase some special cable/adapters?
Thanks!

Yes, you need a cable to connect your PW to your flash
I believe those 2 can do the job

You need an adapter cord that has a female hotshoe for the flash end, and a miniphone plug for the Pocket Wizard end.
Enjoy! Lon

If you are handy with a soldering iron, you could update your 580ex and add a port to it.
Here's how.

I thought you just put a PW on top of the 30D's hot shoe and that was it....do you have to start putting cords into the 30D as well?

Alternatively, it can be plugged into the PC socket (if your camera has one) if something else is on the hotshoe.

Ditto to both Mike and Pepperoni. Lon is a good guy and always willing to help.
