The apacer says in the manual that it may corrupt the original compact flash card if the power on the apacer runs out during data transfer. That made me send it back after 2-3 days. I can't afford to ruin someones original wedding pictures.

You can always re-burn it if one disc gets corrupted. Frankly, your objection doesn't make much sense to me.

WestFalcon meant the CF card not the CD.

Ah, I see, that makes more sense. That would seem to be a concern...but what happens if you transfer your pics to a portable hard drive and it goes bad after you've formatted your CF card?
Every system, it seems to me, has weaknesses.

:) just ran the battery dead while it was verifying ... CF card did NOT get corrupted.

As data is only being read from from a CF card in these (CD or disk drive) devices I'm very hard pressed for a technical reason why it would get corrupted ... don't care what the user manual says, it just doesn't make any technical sense. Someone feel to correct me with a valid explanation. User manuals ... most seem to be 50% disclaimers due to corp. attorneys trying to justify their jobs

You're less likely to have a problem if it shuts down while reading from the card, but writing is a different story. Doing a "move" to hard-drive involves deleting the files on the card after copying - clearly a more accident prone operation. It depends on the device software wether the files on the card get deleted after each file is copied, or wether it deletes all files after the whole copy operation.

If you're worried at all about battery failing (i.e. low battery indicator) just don't risk it! use a mains adapter if possible at that point.

You wouldn't do a photo shoot without backup batteries for your camera, why would you not plan for having enough gas in the tank of your storage?

plan ahead...
