Hello everyone,

I'm new to the forum, so this may be something allready discussed, but I have some questions about digital work flow with Canon digital cameras.

1. I have four Canon cameras (10D, 300D, G-3 and S-400), and I use Adobe photoshop album as my initial download. It gets a little confusing because I sometimes get the same Canon file number from different cameras. Is it best to set the camera for continuous or auto-reset? Then, what is the best way to get this info into your computer?

2. Do you download to a folder first and re-name, or is it best to let Photoshop album rename each file by date. I generally download each card to a Nixvue digital album 2 as well as the comuter, and I just bought and 80 Gig external hard drive as another way to back up as well as burning CD's of each card.

I use photoshop CS to tweak images and I print on a Canon S9000 printer. I haven't really settled into a repeatable routine and I would appreciate some advice as to what you all do in that regard.

Thanks in advance, I really enjoy this forum and have learned a great deal allready. Mark :D

I reset the cam before each shoot, 'cause I hate long #s. Then copy, not move, them to a folder & rename them before converting from RAW.
Some people like continuous though, so you'll probably get many other choices.

I don't reset or rename, that way I have a unique "serial number" for each pic. I put all pics from a job or project in it's own folder named for the job. I do portraits and events so this is not a big problem for me. If you shoot a lot of stock or have to search on keywords then renaming may be a better option. You can also add keywords to the metadata and still keep the unique number for the file. The biggest issue is how you need to be able to get back to the pics and under what method you will need to search for them.

I keep a database that logs all my backup CD's and they are stored in order by an ID number for the disk. In 3-4 years of being totally digital this method has worked fine for me but it's a matter of personal preference in my opinion.

Lots of advice in the past on digital workflow if you do a search.

I have similar problems to you as I have a D60, 10D and S50. I save down each of them in a folder called say July 04 and under that have say D60JPGInbox, 10DJpgInbox,10DRAWInbox etc. Under each month I also have a folder called Developed which is where I store my tweaked images. That way duplicate file names is not a problem.
