Someone has that lens for sale and they are asking $390. Looks in pretty good condition, pictures from it look good. Wondering what other people think about this lens. I need something wide that doesn't say "L"
Yes or No???

I own this lens and I like it quite well. It softens in marginal light (wide open), and can exhibit flare if you shoot into bright sunlight without considering how it is hitting the lens front element.
Focus is fast, zoom is smooth, and it fills in well between my wide prime (14mm) and the lower end of my Canon zoom glass (28mm, soon to be 24mm). I have seen sharper wide zooms (16-35 f2.8L), but not in this price range. For a little more money, one can find the 17-40 f4L, but you sacrifice 2mm on the wide end.

If I couldn't afford the 17-40 Canon or the 17-35 Sigma, I'd buy that one. Not much to say, havent used it much.

I've seen the 17-40L used for close to $600. So is losing those 2mm and getting L glass worth $200? I'm starting to think I should go with the Canon, but I'm still open to your opinons.

I don't know about that particular lens, but if you're looking for wide-angle, I love my Sigma 12-24.

Could you please explain in more detail why you have so much enthusiasm for this lens. Thanks! :D

How much detail would you like?
It's a very clear lens with a hellaciously wide angle of view and it takes some great pics.
