Nice work there Jim, although just keep an eye on the focussing on a couple (no5 in particular). However a nice set of pics. Only other thing that I might suggest is shoot from a lower angle, the standing viewpoint makes the players appear smaller and a little less imposing in the frame.

Thanks Paul, On the focus issue, I am using the back button to focus then hit the shutter to take the pic, by the time you hit the shutter when the player is running towards you he is out of focus very quickly, really only get one shot in focus, should I be using the shutter to focus?
Will try to get lower down was using the 300 and had to get behind the dead ball line for the try shots.

Not sure is the answer to your question - I use the shutter button for focussing, with the option to suspend focusing using the * button (cf4-2 I think on a 1 Series). I would assume that you should be holding the back focus button down throughout shooting your sequence, so the focus follows through.

I do hold down the * button all the time during the shot, I am assuming if you take a burst of 3 or 5 shots it holds that focus until the shutter is released and you refocus, I use cf4-3in the custom function

Hi
Unlike you all I have an old Sigma and I've used it sometimes with a 1.4 tc all season for cricket and the players seem to like the results and it hardly leaves my camera.

Missed the pictures first time round.
Good way to start the new season, It all practice, practice and more practice.
Re the player in the second picture still playing at 43. He then must have been one of the very diligent players and attended all the after match warm downs in the club house or local pub.

Cheers Ken, takes a few games to sharpen up, he never missed warm downs in the club house and the local, just one of those guys who is good at everything, 4 handicapper at golf, could have made it at soccer, played good level cricket;)

As far as the photos go, I think they're terrific! As far as rugby goes, I have to admit I know virtually nothing about the sport. That's probably more a reflection on me than anything because isn't it true that there are very few official rules of the game?!? Maybe someone could enlighten me a bit!:D
