Having trouble locating a Hoya R72 or Wratten #87, Wratten #87C.

To make a long story short found this info. in a book. but want to start IR photos so any help will be greatly appreciated.

Have look on the Hoya and Wratten web sites but do not seem to have.

Have you tried e-bay. They have a number of different sizes available.

have you tried B&H website they do have Hoya's listed

I have found one on E-bay I do not think I would have ever thought of E-bay.

I have bought 2 IR filters on e-bay with good luck. Just make sure to check out the seller as best you can. Have fun with the IR stuff. I have some example on my website at gibbutler.fotopic.net. These were taken with the Canon 10D and the Hoya R72. Keep in mind shutter speeds will be in the 8 second plus range.
