View Full Version : Wedding Photography Link Exchange

Link exchanges help increase your website's ranking for search engine's. The main tasks is that everyone who participates on the web exchange links to everyone else's website. It can grow to be very large and does wonders for everyone involved. I have read about people going from Page 10-20 on Google searches to page 1-2 just by participating in a link exchange.
If you are interested, you will need to post the following information for us:
<a href="YOUR LINK HERE" title="YOUR TITLE" target="_blank">YOUR CITY<strong>YOUR TITLE</strong></a>
Now, you need to add the link exchange information to your website. There are 2 options. If you are not technologically savvy, then stick with Option 1 and don't bother reading Option 2. Otherwise, give them both a read and decide which you'd like to go with.
Option 1
Download this file (http://www.mimphoto.com/wedding/mylinks.php) by right clicking it and selecting "Save As". You want to upload this file to the root directory on your web server. For example, the root of my wedding website is www.mimphoto.com/wedding, so, I would put the "mylinks.php" file in the "wedding" directory on my web server. Once this "mylinks.php" is on the root directory of your web server, you want to link to this file from your home page. You can do so by copying and pasting the following code onto your home page:
<a href = "mylinks.php" title = "POTN Links">POTN Links </a>
This is all that needs to be done for Option 1.
Option 2
Copy and paste the following PHP statement into your links php file:
<?php include("http://www.mimphoto.com/wedding/potnlinks.php"); ?>
Ensure that this links php file is linked from your home page.
I will be checking all the sites submitted for the link exchange within 3 days of submission. Whatever sites do not link to the link exchange on their home page will be removed from the link exchange and do you no good. Whenever a new link is added, it will automatically show up on your links - you do not have to do anything else.
If anyone has any questions, please feel free to ask!

Bryan, are you saying you would like to be the administrator of this? In order for a link exchange to work well, SOMEONE needs to step up and maintain it. And it would be great if we can just php include it so we don't even have to keep updating the list... we would just inherit the master list that the administrator maintains. That is exactly how the OSP link exchange works. The rest just end up dying because it requires EVERYBODY to keep updating their sites.

My plan is to get enough people interested to have 3 nice lists. List A, List B and List C. People in List A will link to people in List B, List B to List C and List C to List A, that way there are no two people who are linking each other - SEOs don't see that as being as credible.
If there's enough interest, I'll have 3 simple php files that everyone can just do an include for their website and I'll update it as we get more people interested.
I'd like to have at least 9 people interested before I go any further. I'll update the original post with those who are interested.

Bryan,
I've read on SEO lately, and apparently that three-way linking is worse than link exchange as it is seen as trying to "trick" search engines. Link exchanges (two-way) are viewed as fair game.
But yet again, I'm no SEO expert and no one really knows what Google et al. are doing behind those closed doors... (I'm guessing that they are having a party and they don't want to invite us)

Anyone else know anything about this?
If this is true, then I can just create ONE php file and everyone can include it - thoughts?

Google agrees with Sebastien from what I can gather:
However, some webmasters engage in link exchange schemes and build partner pages exclusively for the sake of cross-linking, disregarding the quality of the links, the sources, and the long-term impact it will have on their sites. This is in violation of Google's webmaster guidelines and can negatively impact your site's ranking in search results. Examples of link schemes can include:
-Links intended to manipulate PageRank
-Links to web spammers or bad neighborhoods on the web
-Excessive reciprocal links or excessive link exchanging ("Link to me and I'll link to you.")
-Buying or selling links that pass PageRank

Gotcha. Waiting on a few more people ... I'd ideally like to have 10ish before going ahead and making the php files. Please post the following if you are interested:
<a href="YOUR LINK HERE" title="YOUR TITLE" target="_blank">YOUR CITY<strong>YOUR TITLE</strong></a>
Once I have 10, I'll make up a php file and post it with instructions. I'll periodically check everyone on the list's home page (the link they give up top) and ensure that they are linking to the file and aren't just going for a free ride.

Hi Kai,
I am as confused as you.
Bryan or anyone who understand fully about this, if you don't mind, is it possible if you could explain step by step the way to insert it.
I understand fully that the goal is to increase our rank in search engine (if I am not wrong), I just don't know how to implement this on my website.
Thank you

You need to be able to add a php include ... it's sort of the same, but the extension needs to be ".php"
bcap
17th of September 2007 (Mon), 14:35
Actually, you won't even need to do that, all you'll need to do is link to another php document.
So, somewhere on your page, you'd need to have this:
<a href = "potnlinks.php">POTN Link Exchange</a>
I'll supply the potnlinks.php file for you (a simple php file with the include statement already in it), or I'll supply the include statement and you can put it into your own php page if you'd like.
It sounds complicated but it really isn't.

Basically, what I will do is provide 2 things:
1. A full-packaged php file that all you have to do is link to - this is the simplest way. What you would have to do is put my php file (i.e. potnlinks.php) on your server and then link to it on your home page.
2. A php include statement that you can insert into your own php page (let's say links.php) and you must link this links.php from your home page.
If you are not 100% comfortable with html/php/etc, then just go with option 1. It's super simple.

That's a bit of a problem, but is easily overcome. What I'll do is send you an html file to link to instead of the php file. The only problem is that you'll have to update it whenever a new person wants to be added to the link exchange.
I would be interested in this once I get my site set up. Is it now or never?

Ok folks, we have 11 people participating. Here is what needs to be done.
There are 2 options. If you are not technologically savvy, then stick with Option 1 and don't bother reading Option 2. Otherwise, give them both a read and decide which you'd like to go with.
Option 1
Download this file (http://www.mimphoto.com/wedding/mylinks.php) by right clicking the words "this file" and selecting "Save As". You want to save it somewhere into the same directory that your website is located, and then upload it to the root directory on your website. For example, the root of my wedding website is www.mimphoto.com/wedding, so, I would put the mylinks.php in the "wedding" directory on my FTP server. Once this "mylinks.php" is on your web server, you want to link to this file on your home page. You can do so by copying and pasting the following code onto your home page (you may want to customize the color/size/text/etc):
<a href = "mylinks.php" title = "POTN Links">POTN Links </a>
That is all that needs to be done for Option 1 - simple, right?
Option 2
You want to copy and paste the following PHP statement into your links.php (or whatever it is called - so long as it is a php file) document:
<?php include("http://www.mimphoto.com/wedding/potnlinks.php"); ?>
Please make sure this links php file is linked from your home page.
Please do this as soon as possible - I will be checking all the sites submitted for the link exchange in 3 days. Whatever sites do not link to the link exchange, I will remove off of the main file. This is all you have to do - whenever a new link is added, it will automatically show up on your links.
If anyone has any questions, please feel free to ask!

Ok, i've uploaded the mylinks.php to my site and as i don't particulary want my customers access it i've linked to it from 3 full stops right at the bottom of my page.
There's some text at the bottom which waffles a little which i put there to assist with SEO. It's not hidden or anything you just need to scroll down to the bottom... My link is there i promise :D..
Does this now update itself when links get added or do we amend as we go?

If you want to give your SEO a boost then its worth a taking a couple of minutes to register with http://www.photolinks.com ....... (if you havent already registered of course). They have a very good page rank and have been around a long time and are the best free link I have seen so far. A link from a very relevant page with a rank of 5 like this is worth a lot. Heres how the listings look, this is mine listed on the warwick page in the UK, they cover all countries though. http://www.photolinks.com/ResultsPage18.html?COUNTRY=United%20Kingdom&STATE=Warwickshire&CITY=Warwick&CATEGORY=
Be interesting to see if anyone increases their Page Rank through this Link Exchange because it used to work very well but I arent so sure these days ... people were abusing it and google have adjusted their PR systems to combat the abuse.

If you want to give your SEO a boost then its worth a taking a couple of minutes to register with http://www.photolinks.com .......
I checked this site out, but they require you to have a link back to their site. Do you have a link back to their site? Do they check?

Lloyd, just throw it at the end of your php file that has the links for our link exchange on it. Check my links page to see what I mean.

Okay I think I got this to work. I didn't use PHP... I used the HTML one cuz I couldn't get PHP to work for some reason. There's a link at the bottom of my site called "partners" and that links to the page that has all the links from POTN.
This is my site:

All you need to do is download the potnlinks.html file and link to it from your home page.

You'll be fine, you're linking right to my file, so when I update it, yours will be updated. The space doesn't make a difference but if you want me to change it I can.

For example, the root of my wedding website is www.mimphoto.com/wedding (http://www.mimphoto.com/wedding), so, I would put the mylinks.php in the "wedding" directory on my FTP server.
<?php include("http://www.mimphoto.com/wedding/potnlinks.php"); ?>
I'm trying option 1 but the file doesn't let me "save as". Is this a "Vista" thing? Geesh.....I really dislike Vista. Thanks for any help you can offer.
