The background wasn't the greatest, but it was the only opportunity I had to get the shot.

Comments please.

Is this picture so perfect that no comment would improve it. (I doubt it.)
Or is it so bad, it's not worthy of comment? :?: :?

I liek the pic. It does seem like the Dragonfly is a bit blurry near his head. It could look that way because the head is a bit dark.

But a good pic none the less. I spent a day shooting dragonflys a few weeks ago. Got some good pics, of course it was like they wanted to be shot, they were landing on my arm and everything!

dragonfly itself isn't sharp enough, background isn't blurred enough, composition needs a lot improvement, a lot space wasted in the frame.

like the colour though

I think my AF (autofocus) focused on the brown stem instead of the dragonfly, making the dragonfly image slightly less sharp than I wanted. What could be done to improve the composition? Crop the picture so the dragonfly is centered?

I wasn't so fortunate as ds77 to have a multitude of dragonflies to chose from. This was one lone dragonfly and he was kind of skittish. As I moved in for a closer shot, he flew off and didn't return. No more photo opportunities.

Maybe I need to hire a photoshoot director to cue the dragonflies. :D

I appreciate your comments. I hope to improve my digital photographs with input from this forum. Thanks.

I know what your talking about with trying to capture something on camera that only gives you a breif moment to shoot. It is very hard sometimes to get the shot absolutely right.I think its a really good picture.

I think that all it needs is some playing around in photoshop - make the dragonfly sharper, brighten the shadows up a bit and increase contrast, I think it would look great. Ignore me if you have already done this, and this was the sharpest you could make it.

I personally really like it. The dragonfly is distinct enough from the background to not cause confusion. You can see a lot of the detail in the wing, which is nice too.
