HI BECKY!!
Oh, I can't wait to see the sunrise on the mts shots! I've never been to the tetons (YET) but every photo I've seen of them makes me think they are the most beautiful mts. in the world!

It was gorgeous, Curt took most of the shots, I was on the hunt for a Bull Elk, we could hear them bugleing all around us. Alas, only caught some cows. Did get some good shots of Pronghorn Antelope coming across Wyoming today, though.

The colors around the Tetons were gorgeous especially the yellow of the Aspens. Can't wait to properly PP when we get home. We'll be setting up a gallery, captions and everything and of course post a link.

Off to get some sleep, catch you all later.

Wow! On both counts. Awesome to find images you thought you'd lost forever. And amazing @ 8 gigs. I've never done that - not even on the 5D. How many clicks on that camera now? ;)

I've shot 8 gigs before doing birds. You do a lot of rapid fire when you're doing birds, and hope that one turns out.

Excellent shots, Crissa! We don't have anything like that around here.

Like the horse, Deb.

My guess is that it wouldn't work. These software installation routines put all kinds of things in hidden folders and registry entries now...

I could volunteer to find out, though. I installed the trial versions of Lightroom and CS3 on a computer at work a few months ago. I think I spent a total of about 30 minutes in Lightroom. I liked CS3 only a little bit better. I decided to stick with CS2 at home after those trials.

But... I can always try to reinstall successive trial versions on that PC to see what happens.

This instant gratification thing really sucks. There is a guy relatively local with a 40D for sale at a great price...I want it. But I really want a 5D specifically for its low light capabilities as I shoot a TON of that for paid work. Humph! I am not excited about the fps of the 5D and wonder about it for sports, but I can always keep my 30D for that. hmph.

The last time they went it was over our thanksgiving holiday. Apparently Dad kept trying to find someone to make him turkey:rolleyes::lol:. This time he wrecked the rental car, twice:rolleyes:*shakes head*. Blew the tires out on a curb and later hit a bus:confused: "roads sure are narrow". I have yet to hear the fine details but I thought I would be diplomatic in an attempt to stop any international hub bub. Sincerely, Zane.

Permagrin

Permi I'm getting the impression you are sorry you sold your 5D, is this true? Tell me what you love about your MIII?

Well, there are things I miss about my 5D.

I miss the fact that I hardly had to do any pp for most of my shots (I don't know why but I seemed to be able to "nail it" (exposure mostly) more often with that camera. I'm sure I'll get better with the M3 but right now it's not intuitive.

I miss the FF (and the loss of my WA lenses)

and I miss that spectacular DOF you can get w/ff.

I don't miss the dust issues.
and I don't miss the 3fps.

What I love about the M3:
the speed/fps
the colors...they are so natural
the weathersealing (I haven't yet had to clean the sensor)
the fact that I can use the 300F4 & 2x tc and still AF
the portrait grip
the long battery life

the only thing I don't love:
the unexplained oof shots (there's no rhyme nor reason why...and they've appeared at the worst times...often when I really wanted a shot) And because it's so unpredictable, I can't do anything to prevent it, just hope it won't happen...it's super frustrating.

Really I guess my unhappiness is anxiety...I guess I'm afraid that now that I've owned this for 3+ months and heard absolutely nothing from canon about the repairs on the AF (they've made no announcements except "we're working on it") that they'll not do anything until the warranty is over and I'll have a huge repair bill on a $4600 camera.

The 5D isn't fast enough for everything I want to do. If it was, I'd go back to it. I just don't want to haul 2 cameras anymore.

Permagrin
23rd of September 2007 (Sun), 17:51
anyway, if I had more confidence that canon would make it right, if they are unable to fix it, I'd not be worried in the least.

Skrim17
23rd of September 2007 (Sun), 17:51
I keep hearing about some sort of version 2 of the 5D supposedly out in November with faster fps, I worry about lens reach tho, my 70-200 is just making it for me on a crop most of the time.

Permagrin

I keep hearing about some sort of version 2 of the 5D supposedly out in November with faster fps, I worry about lens reach tho, my 70-200 is just making it for me on a crop most of the time.

I've always said that if the 5D was faster, I'd think it was the best camera available (I've never used the DsII or III, I'm talking about the ones that ordinary people can afford). So if they improve the speed and throw a bit of weather sealing on it, then it will be a hard camera to beat. The one thing about it, the pixels are larger than on the xxD cameras...so you can crop with less degradation...and the 70-200 takes a 1.4 tc with hardly any image degradation at all...so you could make up the difference with a tc if you missed the length. And then there'd be that FF for those amazing WA shots (which you could get with a xxD & 10-22 but not as much detail as you'd capture with the 5D).

Permagrin
23rd of September 2007 (Sun), 17:57
then again, that new 40D looks very nice too...I've seen some amazing shots with it.

Skrim17
23rd of September 2007 (Sun), 17:59
My problem lies in low light and a 1.4 tc would cause some issues there. I know the 40D looks great, but I want the high ISO of the 5D.

well, I don't blame you there...the M3 is great with iso as well and has the crop factor. I used 1600 all the time on the 5D w/o hesitation (and sometimes 3200 as well)

Skrim17
23rd of September 2007 (Sun), 18:04
I hate to go to 3200 on the 30D, even 1600 requires a bit of noise ninja and I believe the 40D is the same as 30 in terms of noise. Most of my paid work is performance related at this point, some indoor events as well so I figure if I'm making the money I should buy the appropriate equipment. I can't justify a MIII either way, so the 5D (version 2?) will have to be it.

Rebates are due to start mid-october, I am sure they will offer a nice one on the 5D.

TR's - First thing I did was to go to your link...the Rescue Mission is priceless S.H.E.E.P.

PHOTOS - Can't begin to describe how awesome you all are with cameras in your hands

(Permie, did you consider getting 3-4 side by side frame for the different versions of your sail boat (you posted 2 but mentioned doing several versions) and hanging them? IMHO it would be an interesting set up...like Cat's flower done in different colors and Athena's portrait done in different colors)

I'm not going to do a week's worth of multi-quoting, but; have to hit some highlights (I still have a few pages to go, but; I made a promise to Permi and must go get pics ready to fulfill said promise):

(Permie, did you consider getting 3-4 side by side frame for the different versions of your sail boat (you posted 2 but mentioned doing several versions) and hanging them? IMHO it would be an interesting set up...like Cat's flower done in different colors and Athena's portrait done in different colors)

FISH SLAP -

:) I'm still looking forward them (they are my FAVORITE mountains in the world) *inserts BIG GRIN here*

and that's a great idea about that boat shot. I've got it in it's original form, with the golden filter and in B&W...I could do that. COOL!

One more... for those of you who enjoy jewelery on feet

208203

Let me conclude this series by saying he was rather uncooperative, today. It was kind of late (for him), we had a long weekend, with the balloon fest yesterday, and cramming in everything today. I'm surprised I got any usable images out of him, but there you have it! A few great pictures...

So cute ...

We've also had a rather rough week and a not-so-positive check-up (he didn't gain as fast as he needed to, only gaining half of what he needed.) So, we've been working on that. I also had a near emotional meltdown at his Gymboree class, yesterday because all of the babies his age have well surpassed him in growth...

I hate to go to 3200 on the 30D, even 1600 requires a bit of noise ninja and I believe the 40D is the same as 30 in terms of noise.

I go to 3200 on my 20D quite often. I've never had anywhere near the complaints I see everyone else talking about. Now, my 10D was usually noisy, but even that was acceptable to me with a little help from Neat Image.
